capacitor question
 

i was told to try using a cap to help with my temps and i was recommended this one from Mike...35V 1200uf capacitor

radio shack has the 35V in 1000uf in stock as well.

No - Its is not a low ESR high temp cap

On a 14.8v setup, is a 4600uf cap an overkill?

It's just the size that becomes an issue. But not just any cap will do. It MUST be a low ESR high temp caP

If in doubt, fleebay. I've found a few places selling small numbers of suitable caps lately ( whilst scouting for glitchbuster caps ), instead of bulk-sellers wanting you to buy a dozen or more when you only need one or two.

If you were going to use it on the rx as a glitch-buster cap, then thats fine. Would need to be more like 25-35v for use wired directly on the power wires ofcourse.

Same principle really, it/they help to sure up the current being fed from the batts to the esc, and help to reduce current ripple from lower quality batts. Its just a supplement to the caps already in/on the esc- wont always make a difference, sometimes can make a big difference- the old quark 125b is a favourite amongst many guys to receive some extra caps to boost its performance and lower temps, especially with 6s lipo use ( often a bit flakey on 6s ).

Anyone has pics of how the capacitor is connected to the power wires?

Visualise this:

Strip a little bit of insulation off bothpower wires, near to the esc case as possible. Take the legs of the cap, and wrap each one around each power wire, then solder it in place ( parallel connections, so + leg to + wire, - leg to - wire ). Now insulate the solder joints with some shrink or electrical tape/ liquid latex etc, and perhaps secure the cap(s) in place with some more shrink or hotmelt glue etc, just to prevent it from shifting around and braking the joints.
