Best motor for 3.3 Revo conversion?

Hello,

I have a fully functional 3.3 conversion with my MMM running a 9XL, nearly exclusively for bashing.

I'm ready to upgrade that motor and was wondering what's the best motor for it. (I'm using 5S Lipos if it changes anything.)

Thanks

Loa

P.S. I posted a similar question in the Castle Creations forum, but decided to widen the search.

I run a 1520 in my mbx5T on 5s and it is perfect. So the same would work well in the Revo

I thought about this some more...I am not sure that the 1520 castle motor will fit in the Revo due to clearance issues. Another option is a 1700 Tekin truggy motor. Mike sells these in the store.

Definitely go for the Castle 2200kv motor. Can be had for $110 new if you look around. On 5s it should be insane. Me and ChadWorkz both run that with the MMM ESC in our conversions, and love em (on 4s)

Wouldn't a lower kv motor be better for bashing?

MMM Combo will be fine...

Be careful with longer motors as IIRC you would get interference with rear arm/tower...

You could try a 1518 CC motor but the 1515 CC motor will work great to...

The CC/Neu 2200kV motor is awesome in a Revo 3.3 BL conversion, and all you need to do to clear the XL motors is run the Traxxas Extended-Wheelbase rear a-arm kit. As for the kV of the 2200 and 5S, just gear down a little bit and you will have a very efficient system...higher voltage and lower gearing is more efficient than lower voltage and higher gearing. I am geared for 40mph on 4S with the CC/Neu 2200kV motor and it is PERFECT!

I have a vantage chassis, and tekno kit ready to go. I did have the 2200 motor in, and it did interfere with my rpm arms. All I did to fix that was basically do some sanding on the arm, I just pushed the radius back a bit, it works awsome. Im looking forward to seeing it go :)

I checked the measurements on my system, and even with the added length and width of the 2200, it's not going to touch the rear arms. I'm using Mike's motor mount.

Also, I know that the 2200 has a great reputation, but I don't understand why the 1518 1Y 1800 wouldn't be better suited for bashing.

I cant answer your question about the 1800kv, I am new to brushless, and the cc 2200kv setup is my first taste :)

I would assume the 1800kv wouldnt be as brutal as the 2200 is.

Muggydude 06.10.2010 05:52 PM

Teh 1800kv sytem would be way too torque in my opinion. And why can't you understand the the 2200 system is perfect for bashing! Why do you think Traxxas choseit in their ERBE?

Maybe because the 1518 1Y 1800 is an entire YEAR newer than the ERBE?

I dont think the age matters.. Muggydude has a point about the torque. The 2200kv can eat parts with no troubles at all, the 1800kv would have alot more torque.. I dont know about you, but Ive chewed 5 rear diffs already in my revo. I did shim this one, my 6th, and so far so good. I only run 6s tho, so that could be my problem

Process of shimming...DUH! J/k
It's putting spacers/very thin washers in the diffs so they mesh correctly.

Chadworkz 06.11.2010 12:43 AM

The 2200kV motor, on 5S, with low gearing is the way to go...and I am glad you are using Mike's Revo Motor-Mount, it is the best there is...that Tekno mount is pure crap, all three versions.
