Nitro or Battery Power?
 

so, since im new to the hobby i just gotta ask......... who thinks what is better..... NITRO or BATTERY? and brushed or brushless?

i have a nitro T-MAXX as you can see in my signature, and a stock stinger brushed motor rustler that i am changing into a stampede, probly will go brushless eventually too, so i guess ill just see for my self, but just figured i would ask everyones opinion....

seems like there is more people on these websites going to a brushless set-up, but the few localists around here all run Nitro power.....

so whats the deal, is it that people just dont want the hassle of working on the nitro motors or are the brushless ACTUALLY better in terms of power/speed/performance?

I chose electric because I didn't want to and didn't have time to mess with nitro when I had time to play. I wanted something that I could take out and run for 30 minutes, then up it away. Being a dad with two small boys requires more of my time than RC.

Nitro is powerful, but brushless is more powerful than nitro, since its like nitro engine working with electric power and you will get a silent, fast spooling engine that does not irritate the people around nor it will cause you all the mess you usually face with nitro engines. For what reason do you think that Mike has openned this site for the specialty of brushless setups?! Because its weaker than brushed?!! No, ofcourse not. Brushless rules, and I'm not saying this because I'm biased, either.

Nitro isn't necessarily more hassle,you have to expect your fair share of problems with brushless too,for me it's simply a question of power,simply no contest.There's a limit to how many nitro engines you can fit on one truck and it takes a few big blocks to equal the power of some of the bigger brushless set ups.Can't stand the noise or the smell for too long either.

What I like about [brushless] electric:

- Much less noise
- Ability to run indoors
- Less mess from Nitro
- Less maintenance
- Better torque
- No break in
- No glo-plugs to replace
- No trouble starting
- Less tinkering to get it right (I always seem to be adjusting the needles for the weather that day).
- Don't have to keep buying fuel.
- BL Motors generally last longer than Nitro engines and only require new bearings to rebuild, so are cheaper to rebuild when necessary.
- Require fewer servos and mechanical linkages (less things to go wrong).
- Having or not having reverse is a simple programming change.

What I don't like about electric:

- Charging batteries. That's it.

When I got my Revo, I was really on the fence between the E-Maxx and the Revo because I really wanted electric, but the Revo was just too damn cool to pass up, so I got that Now that I'm working on my E-Revo, I'll have two Revos and the best of both worlds (in my opinion at least).

Don't take it wrong, I love:043: the power of brushless. Just got my first warrior xl7/9920 up and running. No comparision to the twin brushed traxxas setup.:005: This is great! Now I am waiting fo my trans to let go.:002:

well now that i see the "we specialize in brushless set-ups" i realize how dumb a question that was, LOL....

always just saw the RC-MONSTER before....

i too am a father with one child, single father/USMARINE so i have little time too, but RC takes less time than motocross did, and safer too.

i just remember when i got my first battery RC when i was around 12 yrs.old and NITRO was the way to go then, but obviously times have changed, so i too will have both setups, nitro MAXX, and brushless PEDE....

Well for power I like the brushless. I have fried a few brushes. For a long day of bashing I like to run the nitro while the batteries are charging. I like nitro but if i had to choose one it would be no question the brushelss would win.

to make a long story short.....back in the day....I ran electric.....then in the mid 90's...I decided to go nitro....and after not having any good luck with tuning,ect... I switched back to electric.....then in the emaxx came out....... i tried the old modeltech Bl system and had not much luck.....switched back to brushed ...then when everyone was on the Hacker Bl bandwagon....I decided to go with BK....that was about 5 yrs ago..... and I'm still running the same Bl motor....and I just recently fried my 1895 micro.....which Bk replaced with a 2095 for about $150.00......basicly I like the lack of needing to tune....that Bl has...plus the endless motor/controller combo's available.....plus the on-demand powerband and torque....just my 02. worth

I'm still learning nitro, haven't had a BL setup yet and run brushed for many years. But for power and thrill i think brushless would be the best

Both of my brushless Maxx's are faster and have more torque than my modded .28 T-Maxx. I'll go the BL route.
