Revo 3.3 engine problem

Got a revo 3.3 4 weeks ago, completed break in and then got retuned, but now i do 1/2 a tank of 25% nitro, and looses power and is hard to start, is generating heaps of blue smoke, so not too lean
Any ideas what it is?

Go brushless...

What's_nitro? 06.20.2010 02:38 AM

I'm no nitro mechanic by any means- but could it be getting too hot and causing a gap to form between the piston and sleeve due to expansion, which would lead to a partial loss of compression? That would cause the symptoms you are experiencing. I assume it starts fine once it sits for a while and cools down?

Oh yeah, a BL conversion would be a good idea, too! :mdr:

The problem is that it's a Traxxas engine, and it's not brushless! Really need more info to give you an idea. Will it start when it's cold or just hard to start when it's hot? It may be to rich if it has heaps of smoke coming from it. Glow plug could be bad.

no its hard to start warm or cold, have changed glow plugs so many times i should get shares in company

I go back to my original statement then! It's a Traxxas engine and thats what you can expect! That's the number 2 reason I went brushless, number 1 is that brushless is more powerful.

Most likely your mixture is off, go back to the original settings on the carb which I beleive is flush on the low speed and 4 - 4 1/2 turns out on the highe speed needle. Get it running and then tune it again.

Then go brushless, but stick a baseball card in the wheel spokes...should sound really loud and good.

You're on the wrong forum for nitro my man. Check out the traxxas forums, or rctech, or rcuniverse, or something more specific to nitro.

:lol:Yeah you should try the brushless instead of spending time to get it started while brushless is brushing right by you lol:lol:check your plugs and their breakin period is several tanks
