esc capacitor Q:
I'd like to get a capacitor for my MMM, but Mike is out of them.
Would something like this work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT If not, what would I be looking for? Thanks. :intello: |
I just search Ebay for "low ESR capacitor" and always find what I need. It is important that they are low ESR and that you use short leads when connecting to keep overall resistance low. Look for caps rated to 105C temps, most low ESR caps will be.
Also a good rule of thumb is to get caps rated for an extra 50-75% of the voltage you plan to run. 35V caps are pretty well accepted for up to 6S. Running caps at their max rated voltage will greatly reduce lifespan of the cap. Finally, running two 1000uF caps in parallel is better for dissipating heat than one single 2000uF cap, so if you have room look at making a bank of smaller caps instead of one big one. |
|
What is the capacitance of that bank, can't find it.
|
That bank has 8 caps of 470uF ea.
|
I'll take your word on the 470uF, but the pic shows 10 caps.
|
It is 10 caps. I have one on my MMM going in my On-road speed car to help with spikes on braking.

Thanks! So then, would the desired ESR be about 2000 if I'm running 6s?
Edit: So these are what I'm looking for to run two in parallel: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT |
Well, two of those in parallel would be 2000uF, but that is the capacitance. ESR stands for equivalent series resistance, as long as the cap is listed as low ESR you aren't as concerned with the exact ESR value.
I would run 3 of those for 3000uF. That is the guy I usually buy caps from, good guy to deal with. |
Sweet. I had to look through all 11 pages on ebay to find them.
Big thanks for the help! |
I've also bought from him. good guy..
