Charging Question
Alright team, i have a question; Currently i am using the Hyperion EOS0606i charger. When i am charging high mah batteries like my Turnigy 5s 5000mah batteries it only charges them at around 2.5amps, am i wrong to assume that they should charge at 5amps, i mean right now it takes over an hour to charge one @2.5amps. It might be time to upgrade chargers now especially with 5th scale brushless cars in my arsenal. Does anyone have suggestions as to which charger as should buy next if my current one isn't up to the task? I prefer the Hyperions because they are simple and have lasted me much longer than any other charger i have owned, but i am willing to look elsewhere. Also if i get one that requires a power supply, which one should i get?

there are a few places that have those ac or dc 5amp chargers for like 50 bucks. I picked one up as a second charger works like a charm for packs that only take a 1c charge. They go by many names, and different companies, but I am sure they are all the same on the inside.
The Monster has a decent 8amp dc charger for about the same, and a 50 dollar power supply that will support it. |
You just need a bigger charger. The 0606i is rated for 50W max output, which is why your battery isn't charging fast enough.
The 0720i would be a good choice. It has a 360W max output. :yipi: Great for charging big packs, or high-rate charge capable packs. What's the biggest pack you need to charge? That would determine the minimum power supply requirement. |
Actually, the 720i has a 250 watt max output which is 5 times what you currently have. The 720i is a super nice charger and wil require a hefty power supply to be able to push those charging numbers. I'd suggest at least a 30amp ps.
The DUO 615 is really nice! I use this charger since I most run a bunch of 2s lipos. It makes charging easier than lugging around 2 chargers. The DUO will push 180 watts through each channel. However, i'm pretty sure you can sync them to ccharge 1 larger pack at 360 watts output. There are some other nice chargers out there as well. I tried the Hyperions and loved them, so that is what i use. |
It would seem we have a typo on our hands! :mdr:
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...S720IV3&cat=19 Though, I notice now that it says 250W in two other places... |
That link also shows it capable of charging 1-6 cells, when in fact it can charge a 7s pack. Those stats look like Duo stats.
