electric lawnmower
Hi !
I'd like to convert my stinky old gas lanmower into a clean electric one :) But i don't know what motor to chose? Would a Turnigy 80-100-B 130Kv Brushless Outrunner (eq: 70-55) Motor on 6s be enough ? i,d like to get about 2h of runtime and eqal power as the 4,5hp 4-stroke engine stock engine . For battery i was thinking of using a 7s4p of 8000mah li-fe pack . the lawnmower has an 25inch rotor. |
What' the hp rating of your ice lanmower??
|
the stock 4-stroke engine puts out 4,5hp

don't see a problem, but would have to watch amps and temp closely... and the motor is not the most efficient...
probably going 14S life would be a good idea... |
What do you estimate the cost of the conversion to be for you?
Why not just go buy a Black and Decker electric lawn mower. They have cordless versions now. Mine is a tethered version, been using them since I was a kid. Tons of longevity and good mowers. Just don't let the grass get crazy tall, or you might have to do it two sweeps. ben |
Yes icould buy a black n decker cordless mover but the i would missout on the fun in bulding stuff :) .
And the gas price here in sweden are high ! about 8$/gallon !! so an electric mover would be great !! |
You need to find out what RPM your motor runs at as well so you don't spin the blade too fast or too slow. I think one of the big outrunners would work great but if it could be run on 10-12s I think you would have a more efficient system. You will definitely want a lot of torque so you won't bog down any.

Lawnmowers run at 3300 RPM. any faster can cause extreme problems (possible breakage of the blade)
