Another overheating issue with the CC Sidewinder and 5700
 

Like the title says... Truck is a 2wd slash and over heats in less than 5min. I am geared down to 15/90 and still its horrible. Why is castle offering this set up for these trucks knowing how bad this problem is?????

Anyone from Castle care to offer any assistance......... I am fed up with set up and run ALL Castle products in my cars. At this point I am starting to doubt the quality. I mean why release a product that has these problems in 1/10th scale vehicles........

Please refer to our usage advisory for the short course vehicles. The short course trucks are too heavy for most 1/10th setups, so please don't blame the setup; all speed control manufacturer's are dealing with this problem. They need a bigger motor to push the weight of a short course vehicle. If you run a very conservative gearing (12/90) and lowest timing, it should work just fine. We do not recommend using the Sidewinder in that setup though, it will always run too hot.

We released the sidewinder and all of our 1/10th systems years ago, well before the short course trucks were released. We are trying to get as much info out as possible about this issue, but if you don't research your setup beforehand and follow our recommendations, then there's not much we can do.

This is something you should take up with the LHS's that sell your product then. Hobby People in general, I was advised to buy this product rather than the 4600kv set up that is also offered. Like I said I have 5 other CC systems that I love, This one not at all, It has been nothing but a headache. LHS wont return the product and now I am stuck with a set up that is useless to me. There should be some kind of warning posted on the packaging that this set up shouldnt be used for any SC vehicle..

And sorry if I came off a bit abrupt, I am just a little fried from dealing with this thing. After gearing down to 15/90 I couldnt even run it at a local track this weekend in Havasu. I was quite disappointed...

So what do I do now???

I'd try what Thomas recommended -- 12/90 gearing and set timing to "lowest"

Or replace the ESC/motor with a proper one for the job.

As frustrating as it is, you can't really blame CC for the dumb things your LHS tells you. We've had plenty of LHS horror story threads, and many don't shop there anymore. Sry for the bad luck, but trust me, a lot of us have been there before. On the bright side, you've had two CC people help you out, and one was the president! G/l

Your definitely right just a lil frustrated, its not CC's fault. Hopefully the 12/90 gearing will let me run..

Use the internet to get advise and opinions, use your lhs to get parts- never trust the word of most lhs staff as they will sell you junk or unsuitable items just to make a sale and/or clear slow selling items. This is a universal truth... :yes:

Anyway, dont despare too much- you can always sell or trade your sidewinder setup if you can get it too run cool, then put the money towards and MMPro & whatever motor is flavour of the month ( hvmaxx 4.5 on 2s lipo maybe, or a medusa 50mm ~3300kv even- SC isnt really my thing... ).

I would sell the Sidewinder and CM36 motor, cut your losses, and invest in a Mamba Max Pro and suitable larger motor (Novak HV, Ballistic 550, Tekin 550 if you want to take advantage of the sensored capability.)

I would try the CC mamba monster 2200Kv/4S 25/90 gearing, with 80% punch control and 6 timing, that should be smooth and should run as cool as can be ^^ The only cons is the additionnal motor weight ;)

Well 12/90 gearing seems to be doing better I was able to run for about 15min while doing some testing and it seemed much cooler but not too much power, I hope I didnt fry this motor, it is spinning pretty freely. If I remember correctly new it was pretty tight. Maybe I am used to my 2200's.
