1518 vs Neu 1415
 

Since Neu is taking ages to send me invoice for replacement 1415 (endbell separated during race which ended in damaged stator) I need a new motor. How big overkill is 1518 for a truggy? I want to stay with 5S and 1518 is smallest motor from CC.

The 1518 w/5s is a extremely efficent and powerful combo,perfect for any MT or Truggy.

The 1518 is a great choice for truggy duty. :)

the only thing I dont like is its weight. 450g is 50% more than 1415 (300g)

An extra 5oz is significant, but in the Mugen it may help balance the truck left/right. The center diff is pretty close to the center on this truck, so the battery side is typically a little heavier than the motor side.

that's a good point especially as I moved from 3300mah to 4200mah batteries as on some tracks 10minute mains would push them to the limit

You weren't planning on running the 1415 in a truggy were you? Those motors are really only intended for 1/10th applications; particularly heavier applications where a standard 36mm won't do the job, IE 4x4 CORR trucks. Use caution using a 1415 in a truggy.

used it for one year and won about 10 races with it :) until 30C+ weather it stayed cool during 10 minute runs and was incredibly efficient (about 10% less mah/minute compared to my backup Tekin T8 truggy 1700kv)

why would you say that 2200kW motor is for 1/10scale? 1/10 scale motors are under 1kW, no need for more. Based on telemetry my old 6kg emaxx needed about 1900W (did try with 2500W motor and batteries powerfull enough) to accelerate from standstill and then needed about 300W to keep moving at WOT.

My racing truggies are lighteweight (Mugen 5T used to be 4300g RTR and now my 6T is under 4200RTR)

I was very happy with the engine until the enbell separated. The can is very thin and those stupid small setscrews holding the enbell just ripped it apart.

And sice Neu support takes ages I ordered the 1518 as I like Mike's comment about better weight balance with heavier motor. (need closed can motor so standards Neus are out)

BTW before 1415 I had 1512 2050kv (started with 16cells nimh so 2050 that time was perfect) on 5S in my maxx and for one race in my old 5T and it did very well and 1512 is about as powerfull as 1415.

i thought the 14 series motors had the same size rotors as the 15 series? :whistle:

I've had 1412's in a couple 1/8th buggies with great results.

I've a 1415 1500kv. Can I use it on a truggy with 5s-6s. I'll only race with it and 30-32mph max will be enough. I assume I need a light truggy and probably going to buy a xray xt8. Will this motor have heat ıssues with a pinion about 12T.

WIthout any problems. we use 1700kv on 5s in truggies

Thanks for the info. What is the gearing and approx. weight of your truggies?

mine used to be 4200g rtr geared for 42mph

others have cars 4300-4400g geared for about 36mph
