more speed
more speed
i have a all aluminum brushless emaxx running castle creastions 2200 system i have 19 pinion 65 spur smc 9000 2s 28c packs i have it geard for 40 i want more speed maybe 45 to 50 with no heat issues what is neededto achieve these speeds without going to 3s |
Better battery packs might help. I have those exact packs for my savage flux and they are very weak. Even my 20c 5000mah turnigy packs blow those smc packs out of the water. I can do standing backflips with any of my batteries, except my smc packs. Also, they puffed on a very light run geared for 45mph on pavement with e-maxx tires.
If you gear higher, you can get the speeds you want, but, you will stress those batteries more and they will likely puff. Hobbycity has some really good, cheap lipos that will give you a noticeable. Boost in sped and torque without even gearing up. Also, if you wanted to gear up, the turnigy batteries would be able to easily handle it. There are some nice 40c hard case packs on hobbycity.com for about $25 each. If you can't get new batteries, try a 21t pinion. That will boost your top speed without stressing the esc or motor too much, but those batteries might not be able to handle it for too long. Edit: if money isn't really an issue, try some hyperion packs or some of the new turnigy nano-tech packs. They both have nanotechnology and will last longer than typical lipo batteries and have insane power at the same time. If you decide to go with the hyperion packs, rc-monster has them at a good price. |
One thing to consider, what is the weight of you all aluminum maxx? Pushing it much past 40 on 4s could be a little much too. Make sure in your speed calculations tire ballooning is equated into the formula as well.

22t pinion...
A pair of decent 3s packs would be best, and a 17t pinion. SMC packs are pretty rough, some turnigy packs would be better. |
some one with a faster truck and a rope would be the cheepest way for sure

Thanks for the heads up guys. I was looking at those SMC packs because they are one of the few that fit the emaxx stock battery trays and by their rating they should be good for 252 amps continuous. You would think thats more than enough?
Stellor5, You might want to invest in a wattmeter. It helped me by seeing how far low the voltage would drop vs amp draw. This might give you a better idea to see if you can gear up. I'm not sure if its recommended on the 2200 but adjusting the timing up helped get me a couple mph out of my setup. I setup for about 42mph right now and its really plenty fast for a large MT. If the batteries are sagging voltage under load, then a better set of batteries could be good for an easy 5mph. |

my emaxx is pretty heavy but prolly not as heavy as yours because of all the alum. but i have a feigao 7xl 2382kv and a mmm geared 24/58 and thats crazy high gearing and it goes 48mph. and the mmm still runs warm, motor runs warm because i have a huge fan cooling it, but the lipos run a bit warmer than i liked.
so id say get some better lipos, and get a 22t pinion, and swap out to a 58 spur. you can change the spur gear and play with it since they're only a few bucks, but the pinion cost more so 22t is a good around to mess with. but look at me, im running a cheaper motor and geared super high and its still running good for 2 plus years now. |
Blueb8llz, You setup has to be pulling some serious amps. I bet if it wasnt for the Cooling fan on the 7XL, it would be toast by now. Mine is still running too on 20/68 and I dont let the temps get over 170.
Stellor 5, How about the spc 8000mah 20c lipos. They are cheaper than the SMC and I have been running the older SMC 8000mah 15C packs and they do pretty well under load. The 20C packs have to be better than what I have, and I have been pretty impressed with mine. THe SPC's fit in a stock emaxx 3905 tray. I'm sure they would fit in your aluminum chassis too. The one thing I liked about the Castle motor vs the Feigao on 4S is the Castle can be geared up and I didnt take a hit on the accelleration. In fact, it seemed to accellerate even faster instead of boggin down which is what I was expecting after gearing up. Its been a while, but I think I ran 24/68 on the Castle 2200 on 4S and I was pretty impressed when I geared it up from 20/68. |
no doubt im pulling some crazy amps haha. my motor would have been outta commision the first hour after gearing this high without that fan.
but thats what my point is, if he has a castle 2200 motor which is way better than my 7xl, and we're both using a mmm, but im using neu energy 2s packs which is pretty good, and my system does not run hot at all, , but like i said, the lipos do run pretty warm, so stellar if you get some good lipos try gearing higher to get to your set speed. and if things get too hot , just gear down a bit, but im telling you, i first started with 20/68, then i went to 20/68, then 24/68 and it was still cool, so i said what the heck, might as well gear for more speed and went to 24/58. and its been this way for over 2 years. |
After looking at BrianG's new Avatar, I think the next step is to paint it white. It will run even cooler in the sun.

Hey guys. Pretty new around here. I just had a read of this thread and read a comment about the SMC packs. I always read good things about them on other forums and thought about trying some. Now I am a little bit puzzled. Can it be true that a battery rated at 100A continuous, like a Turnigy 5000mah 20C, really be more powerful than a 9000mah 28C SMC battery which should be good for 252A according to the manufacturer? :gasp:
All I have used so far in my cars and heli have been Turnigy, Zippy and Rhino batts. They have held up great with no issues what so ever. Tons of punch (standing backflips on 4S with ease) and run very cool but I wanted to get the SMC 9000 for my Revo for long bash sessions. Now I am left scratching my head. Am I better off with purchasing more lipos from Hobbyking instead? I would really hate to ruin my good run with lipos with an expensive mistake. Also are the SMC and SPC pack related? They seem to have same capacities and discharge rates on some of their packs. Dimensions look very similar too. Sorry to the OP for taking your thread off topic. |
Based on everything I have experienced stick with the Zippy's etc over SMC or SPC. I believe SPC uses SMC cells the same. I have always questioned SPC's integrity too. For years he refused to acknowledge that lipo was the better power source until he was forced into it by demand. SPC had a lot of money tied into nimh technology and often changed the facts to fit his business needs. Many on the TRX forums love him for some reason and TRX allows him to post although many times he clearly violates their vendor rules.
If you want to go to some higher quality cells check out some hyperion G3's like Mike sells here at rc-monster. Very much worth the money. |
Thanks TEX. I am not a big fan of his neither. He has a rather rude behavior and is quick to talk down a competitors product but will instantly report a post that states anything negative about his. The mods would come along then and delete the posts that say anything negative about him or his product. Who knows? Maybe he gives the Mods on there free lipos. Maybe that is why he can get away with his crap.
Either way I wouldn't have spent any money with him as I was looking to get SMC 9000 but that wont happen neither now. Might get some Turnigy Nano-Tech lipo next. |
