Tires/Wheels For Bashers Thread
 

Off and on, I have gone through different forums looking for ideas on tires and rims for my different rigs. But almost every thread on them is in regards to track tires (how different can a pinned tire be!?!?!? :lol:).
So I want to put together a thread on what tires work best for bashers. I know Frosty did a little comparison a while back with his first Flux, how about others????

Personally, I run 17mm hubs on everything now, and so far, I like the stock Flux tires/rims (but they could use some additional foam). They seem to cushion the jumps well, and give ok traction on most surfaces. But I need something big like that for the Muggy. Mashers maybe? Not even sure they make them in a size that would look "MT" for 1/8th scale. And of course for the XXL LST, I'll need some even bigger ones.

Pics are always helpful, as are specs (I like others get a little confused with the 40 series nomeclature).

The big joes are huge and monster looking but I never was that thrilled with them on my LST2.

Badlands work great but monster looking they are not.

Anyone try the trenchers? They look interesting.

I don't know about these 40 series ones but the other RC4WD Rok Lox perform very well in the 1.9 and 2.2 sizes.

The rock crushers and demolishers have a great monster look to them, although performance is unknown to me.

Those last ones are some big ass tires!

One issue I've had is that I've liked some of the stock tires that HPI sells, among others, but the dont give any specs for them.

I also have had an interest in some of the Axial 17mm beadlock rims. However, I've heard that there can be issues with beadlocks under 6S power. However, I dont know that I've directly read about anyone actually having that problem. I run a couple pairs of a different brand bead lock, and to date, no issues.

I would bet the problem people have with bead locks is installation vs actual design/manufacturer. It's easy to screw up putting them in if you don't make sure the bead is in all they way around.

What I want to see more of are the RC4WD stamped steel bead locks. The are the easiest to install and hold the best in my experience. They look awesome, the price is fantastic (40 for a set of 4 1.9 bead locks) and they are fairly light for a bead lock.

Some people have good luck with beadlocks on brushless rigs, others have serious problems so I personally decided just to avoid having expensive tires blow up on more expensive rims. I prep my tires for gluing and they don't go anywhere after that.

Beadlocks are heavy, I have a set of the axial with badlands on them. My hpi wheels/badlands are considerably lighter.

Huge tires, and they look like super swampers. I have not run them, and might just sell them off as i doubt I will make the solid axle truck anytime soon...

The losi super bolt ons are badass tires for mixed bashing. Those on some half offset proline wheels, glued and balanced will be my setup for the stretched chassis lst when I get it done.

for bashing, the absolutely best tires are proline mulchers, and the losi super bolt ons.
losi zombie maxx, and proline badlands come second ( i personally never used the badlands but others can vouche for them)
trust me, you will not be dissapointed with either of these four.

as far as foams, i like these...not in particuliar order.
proline molded, ofna yellow, trinity 3 stage, panther green, and the losi 3 stage.
i never use the stock foams the tires come with.
make sure you tape the inside of your tires, and youll be good to go.

I've had no issues with stock foams but then again, im not as picky/anal as other people in this forum are about such things. *shrugs*

This from the guy that created no less than 6 threads and posted these across multiple forums on the purchase of a flux and more specifically the batteries used in them. If that isn't anal then what is?!

i was laughing to myself as well. i was like, did i just read what i just read....and coming from ...who?? haha

i chose to get molded foams or the aftermarket foams cus they tend to be stiffer and will not detiorate as fast vs the softer stock foams.
they keep the tires in better form when going 40mph+. and i notice they make your tires balloon less as well.
them stock foams be shifting sometimes inside the tires too. and the worst thing you can have is a ripped/torn foam shifting around inside your glued tire.

when its time to replace tires or rims, ill remove the tires and them stockers would be all jacked up, while the aftermarket foams ...most of the time, i can still reuse them.

If you don't mind a tall tire the hpi terra pins get the job done well,Even on asphalt. And since they are so big they take shock very well making them a cool bashing tire. For me anyway.

One of my favorite bash tires as well, very light and the foam is pretty firm. Great hill climbing tire !
