That is sad but true, at least from looking at what the government is doing now.

suicideneil 08.18.2010 06:50 PM

Its kinda sad how so many people got caught up in the whole 'first black president' thing, rather than looked past that and saw what kind of president he would be regardless of colour. Oh well, only gotta put up with him for another 4 years-ish... :-/

Hilarious

That is hilarious. I enjoyed watching that one. I would love to see the look on any of their faces while watching this. I hope to share that one with some of my friends and family. Very funny and well done. Thanks for sharing.

Eh, only some parts true from a certain perspective. Other stuff not really based on facts.
Where's little Bushie promising huge tax cuts, massive new entitlement programs, two foreign wars we've yet to win, a net negative job loss, and a budget that went from +$250B to -$1400B by the time he left office? That was awesome.

Wanna try fixing the budget? Here's a little game that's pretty cool. Play king for a day and see if you can control the budget, payoff the debt and not wreck the US std of living. Not so easy. Tough choices ahead no doubt. A lot of the crap that gets media attn does not have much of an impact, where as there are some glaring realities nobody is ready to admit we need.

Budget Hero

1st time I went thru I made huge cuts to defense, enacted some needed taxes (but not on middle class), huge investments into science and infrastructure and Healthcare. Got a budget surplus to reduce debt by $5T in 10yrs ($14T to $10T), as well as not gut SS nor medicare heavily. Shrunk govt by 2% of GDP

I'll play again later see what else to do

The link no workie.

Bush is no longer in office, so lets move on and keep things current. Every past president has had their issues and caused problems for their predicesor. This is Obama's problem now and he is not doing a very good job of fixing anything. This is the problem when you put a young nieve candidate into office who depends totally on the advice and guidance of a greatly corupt congress and house to lead you in the right direction. This was a setup by the powers in office already so they could get things passed that they wanted personally. Everyone of these politicians is filling their pockets pushing crap on us to deal with after they are long gone sitting fat and pretty in their retirement. Obama is a puppet who is being led down a road where he will be blamed and dumped on for years to come just like Bushie for everything that is happening now. These issue lie soley in our own hands for letting it happen. The majority voted them in, and the majority are the ones bitching about their lack of accomplishments or shortfalls. Personally I blame all of this on the controling party who push everything through with majority rulings. None of them gives a rats ass about you or I and how we factor into any of it.

Well I'm not so cynical. Cynical yes, but not so much. Obama def has his shortcomings, but we can't ignore the results of the choices that helped lead us here now, esp when big decisions are still being debated on what to do with that legacy. [Those who don't learn from History are doomed to repeat it.]

EG. Bush tax cuts extensions, Medicare reform, Iraq & Afghan, Homeland security and massive spy industry we have (1M have "top secret" clearance..) deficits and debt. Bush may be gone, but the problems are very current and we have to take a realistic view on what we are going to with the accumulated decades of policy we are very much paying for today (and will likely be paying for for decades.) All these are issues for 2010, and will be in 2012, and beyond.

I fixed the link. Just try the game, its fun. Its a bit limited on your choices (mostly limits to current issues that have some political plausibility.)
Run through an ideology and see how it fares.

I just ran thru a Tea Party scenario where I cut every govt option I could, entitlement, as well as enact every tax cut. The only govt spending I increased was for defense or for anti-terror. I shrunk the size of govt 3%, but killed the budget too with the lack of revenue. Went bust in 2027.

going to do an uber liberal one and see how that goes. So far I like my David Cameron/ Germany-lite-ish results.

Finnster 08.18.2010 09:04 PM

Uber lib results: Huge tax increases on the rich and green taxes, tons of spending, cut defense & Dept of HS, grew govt 2%, and still went bust in 2029. Debt stayed about the same. Lots of revenue, but compound spending increases & never paying down debt killed it in a few yrs.

JERRY2KONE 08.18.2010 09:15 PM

Cuts and some spending.

Some cuts in social programs and spending in security and was able to push back the budget bust to 2033. Interesting game but takes too long to get through all of the red tape just like real Gov.

TexasSP 08.18.2010 09:22 PM

Paying down debt will only go so far. Our problem as a nation has become a disease and curing it will be painful. However it's either cure it or have death completely to our way of life.

We are all to blame in this, we all spend too much and carry too much debt.

We have to start making major cuts. We simply cannot tax, spend, print money, and spend our way out of this some more. Bush made many mistakes, however, his spending and debt roll out are a drop in the bucket compared to what this congress and president have done.

Obama is a miserable failure. He is naive at best and unfortunately very dangerous.

Obama's biggest problem is that he is trying to fix debt and deficits with more spending and trying to squeeze a lemon that is juiced out. Do you really think this tax in the "rich" will not affect you who are not? This is simple math, nothing complicated.

Not everyone can be rich, not everyone will have everything equaled to everyone else, life isn't fair. The class envy and rhetoric which has gotten us into this situation is causing the death of this country.

Even Bush's wars are a drop in the bucket compared to the entitlements being rolled out under this congress and president not too mention the huge expansion and reach of the federal government.

This isn't and elephant and donkey issue, it's our issue. I have been through with partisan politics and parties for years. As nutty as Ron Paul is, on many things he is correct. He was the only major candidate that understood and admitted publicly that the policies and size of this government is killing us.

I am not saying go vote for Ron Paul, but I am saying we have to make some major changes to get ourselves back on track and neither major party is taking the steps to do this.

The health care package is already starting to hurt. Premiums are rising at a more rapid rate across the board in anticipation for the far reach of this legislation. This money has to come from somewhere and it will be, your pockets to be exact.

A big change is coming for sure, in what form and how it will affect us waits to be seen. Will it be good or bad? I do not know, but sooner than later the dam will break.

JERRY2KONE 08.18.2010 09:48 PM

I hear ya texas.

Anyone who believes that this will end happily has their head up their other orifice. Our country has spent and cut taxes to a point of no return. The only way to repair the damage is to cut spending, cut Gov growth , cut jobs & cut some more. We have to stop helping every other country and begin fixing our own infrastructure. Fixing this financial problem in our country is going to hurt bad no matter how it is done. Watch and see who comes to our needs when the bottom falls out. The same countries that we have helped will be laughing at us, and saying that what we get for thinking that we are so special. The amount of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ our Gov is GIVING to other countries is unimaginable.

Yeah, takes a bit of time to go thru if you really want to do it right, but its interesting. Of course the game can't predict what choices will have for GDP growth and other unintended effects. Wish the intro would STFU on the page reload too. May have to delete the embed and redo the link..

Going thru it a bunch of times in various ways leads to some pretty depressing out comes. Even draconian cuts to spending and large tax increases doesn't even get the debt paid off in 20yrs. The last one I did still left $9T in debt by 2029 (even $400B surpluses only gets you so far.) Basically to the level of debt we had in 2007. :( There is no way the taxes and cuts I put in would ever even pass.

We're going to be paying this off for the next 50 yrs. We've really screwed ourselves

Pray for some miracle of an awesome recovery and huge GDP growth. If this recovery drags on like Japan's for a decade + with stagnant inflation and high unemployment, we're really screwed.
