RC-Monster 11S E Baja
Well after 7 months of building I finally finished my E Baja.
Specs are: Baja SS RC-Monster E conversion (thank you Mike for such a great kit) Neu 2220 550kv Hyperion 35c 5000mah lipo's 11S (1x5S and 1x6S) Castle Phoenix Ice HV160 Geared for 50mph. Here is a short vid from the maiden run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-IYRV5JnDg After 15min Motor was only 130 and esc 115. Lipo's got to 103. Biggest problem is traction, even with all the weight. Proud
You can be proud of what you have accomplished there. Nice looking toy. For the few upgrades you have in there it looks pretty nice. The video works just fine and shows that you deffinitely have a traction issue there. Proves the point that 4 X 4 is the way to go for the Baja 5b. I would have to believe that if you do some kind of 4WD conversion that you would have an R/C vehicle that could compete on all levels. Very nice rig. I like that netting you installed to protect the internals. have fun.

CRAZY!!! You may have some traction issues but I think if you had more traction it would get boring quick as it would be an uncontrolable wheelie machine good for nothing other than straight line runs
|
That is one Sweet BAJA - Good that you got some hi-res pics before the maiden voyage... Congrats....

Looks nice!
One thing I did to get rid of a similar problem in my large scale 4wd was to reduce the preload on the front springs to soften them and keep the front tires on the ground. I see the same thing in your video - under hard acceleration one of the front tires lifts off the ground (from the torque) and you turn or spin out. Softer front springs (or lowering the front) should help. The other thing I did was to put lower weight oil in my rear diff - that seemed to help my problem some as well. I found that having this much BL power in something this heavy made it much more necessary to tune my setup for good performance (I never had to worry much about this stuff in my 1/8 bashing vehicles). I was able to dial mine in and it handles great now. Wish you luck. |
Sweet baja for sure. Love the screen around the roll cage as well nice touch. Any naked pics of how you mounted everything
|
Yeh, that's a very nice looking baja. I think the cage/mesh has something to do with it. I would also like to see underneath. Great job :great:
|
Really good looking Baja there! She runs great and those temps are well in check.
Have you check the data logging feature of the ICE HV yet? I'm curious as to what kind of output you are seeing. |
Thanks for all your kind words guys.
Yeah, the stock settings of the suspension need to be adjusted (aswell as throttle control) to help with some of the traction issue. But apart from that I am very impressed with the outcome of this buggy. I will try to get some naked shots soon, aswell as some data logged from the ESC. |
Here are a few naked shots and some data logging.

If some of you can help me with working out how my lipo's went, it would be much appreciated. I had the LVC at 3.4v and when it hit, I just disconnected the lipo's and took a reading of voltages and all cells were around the 3.7v mark. Thanks in advance.:great: |
Very nice! Out of curiosity how much does it weigh?

It weighs 11.8kg, nearly 26lbs. |

I saw somewhere, don't remember where though, someone had converted their Baja to 4WD via a belt driven system. Looked a bit klugey in how but something like that would help with getting traction. :) |
