Motor shaft came through the endbell on CC 2200kv. Why?
 

I have a CC 2200kv motor that I run in my truggy. This past weekend while running it, I noticed that the pinion was sitting against the motor mount. Further investigation revealed that the motor shaft was sticking out of the endbell about 1/8th of an inch.

I've attached a photo, please ignore the dirt, I didn't clean up the truggy before I took the photo.

I'm curious to know what caused this to happen? Did the rotor slip on the motor shaft? Did a bushing fail?

I've got a repair order started with Castle, but not sure if they are going to repair/replace the motor because I don't have a copy of my receipt. I've only been in this hobby for less than a year and in the beginning didn't realize how it important it would be to keep receipts. I keep them all now, but of course this is one of the few I don't seem to have. I'm hoping maybe Patrick will see this and help me out.

Looks like the rotor is becoming detached from the shaft , I have one that has done the same thing !

Castle should replace it for free cause it looks like the newer endbell and I dont think those motors have been out for a year yet .

I sent them a picture of it too. Still waiting to hear back from the tech. Fingers crossed. I haven't sent it in yet, trying to find out before I do send it what I can expect.

That's actually an older motor --

The newer rotors have the rotor mechanically locked on the shaft with a pin -- and that type of failure shouldn't ever happen with newer motors.

Usually, this type of failure occurs when the motor is too hot -- the epoxy holding the rotor on the shaft softens at about 180C

But it can happen if the rotor is incorrectly built as well.

Contact tech support, and we'll send you a new rotor for the motor.

What about the endbell? Does it actually have a hole in it or did the shaft chew through it? If so, what do I do about the hole?

Should have mentioned that the motor comes off the track after a 20 minute main at 170 degrees at the hottest location, cooler on other parts.

I run 4S batteries and have to do a battery swap to make the 20 minutes. Seems like once the motor gets to its peak temp, it stays there. I get the same final temp during qualifiers too.

The end bell is fine -- that's just a sticker over the bearing. :)

Awesome. I'll just put some clear box tape over it to keep dirt out.

I emailed the tech I've been corresponding with to ask for a replacement rotor.

Absolutely. Got the email from the tech after lunch today that the new rotor is in the mail, even got the tracking number.

The old rotor makes an excellent fridge magnet, or you might be able to fix it for use as a spare with some ( green/red/stripey -delete as appropriate ) loctite.

Got my new rotor/motor rebuild kit in the mail yesterday. That is ridiculously fast. Thanks Patrick and the rest of the team at CC.
