Strange noise comming from my monster
 

I just ran it a few moments ago and about 5 mins into the run, i started to hear a winding noise but it was only wile staying the same speed or coasting. i heard it comming from around the motor and i took the pinion off and rolled the car down my driveway at a high speed a few times and never heard it but when i put the pinion back on and reset the mesh, it started again.

any idea what it is? i'm thinking it's a bad bearing but am not sure

Maybe the motor has shifted. Do you have a CC motor? If so, you might have twisted the motor and the spikes are hitting the chassis which will warp the pitch of the motor itself, and the pinion might hit the spur sideways. Check from the sides and check that it lines up correctly.

The screw on the pinion gear might have gotten loose..

Transverse planetary solenoid is my guess.....

Gonna have to take it apart sir, we can't really help I'm afraid!

What's the vehicle, does it have a tranny or CD, what motor.

But yes check the motor, the shaft will have a tick back and forth but should not have a 'clunk', and check for resistance spinning the motor shaft while pushing and pulling on it. Where is linc to take that out of context....

And check side to side play on the shaft, again should be VERY little shuck, or none.

Did you check the things I listed? Might be an easy solution.

And did you manually turn the motor? Is the sound coming from the motor itself?

If it turns out to be the motor and you decide to open it, there's not really anything you need to know except to only use a reasonable amount of force with everything you do to it.

yea, you can't tell anything from the outside. and turning by hand it doesn't make a sound. it's only wile it's moving fast. it sounds about like a supercharger does on a car.

Take it apart and check the bearings. If it is making a high pitch whine like a SC, than I would say that that may be the rotor spinning on the inner metal of the bearing. If you pull on the shaft and it has too much give the shaft could have separated from the magnet.

Those are my 2 guesses. If it is the motor that is.

Could be a wonky diff or a pin that worked itself out partway on driveshaft, etc.

Sometimes these things only show up under load...

did you check to see if somebody put a car supercharger on your e-maxx? This all sounds very suspect.........:yes:
