Strange behevior on a MMM
 

Hi everybody

I´m from Argentina, I bought a used e-revo from ebay from a US seller.

I got it today, everything was OK ..

I got a set of lipos from my other e-revo (venon 3s 5000 mAh) plugged the first one, when i was about to plug the second one, i noticed a big current draw with a big spark and some instantaneos heat on wires... Checked everything was connected right.

At that point I decided to test the MMM with my castle link before trying again with lipos ...The mmm connects and seem fine with castle link.

Since the MMM had a series adapter I decide to remove it and give it a try with a single lipo. Disconected the motor wires and plugged a single 3s lipo.. I got the ring tones WITH NO MOTOR CONECTED! and the wires get hot ...

What should i do ?

There is no way the ESC can make ring tones without a motor being plugged in...

The tones are made by energizing the motor coils...

Does the motor run?

Sparks are normal - Its the capacitor charging

Bow to it! Or run from it. Your choice.

I have another e-revo brushless, the spark are stronger than normal and there´s a constant current draw.

I know that there is no way a MMM could do ringing tones without motor , but... do you want a video ?

If you are getting ringtones from it without the motor connected i would run from it like scooby doo cause its haunted.

As ARCT1K stated sparks are normal,and it isnt possible for the esc to ring w/out being connected to a motor.
I have no idea why the battery wires would be getting above ambient temp. by simply making the connection?

My assumption is, theres something is shorted inside the MMM and the ringing tones are emited by the PCB tracks ...

And yes wires get above ambient by just plugging it with no motor ..

Then stop now before you toast something and ship it back to castle...

Then i would suggest sending the controller to castle for repair unfortunatly

I love when "working condition" turns into DOA ...

Personally I would be contacting the seller and getting my money back. Ebay and PayPal have great buyer protection plans in place for situations just like this. If it was said to be in working condition and it is not, you have the right to get your money back. If the seller refuses, I would personally do a chargeback through PayPal.
