Is this lipo combo sufficient?
Hey guys, i have a Hyperion 4200mah 35c 3s lipo sitting here brand new. I was thinking of going and getting a 2s 4200mah 35c pack to run along with it to have 5s in my flux. I know the minimum the Castle ESC likes is 125 amps, and that this combo provides 147 amps. The only reason i worry is that ususally its recommended to run 5000mah and 30c at least to be sure you have enough juice to run the truck. Basically im looking for a little reassurance before i go and purchase something. thanks in advance fellas.

Gearing is a big part of this also, if your gearing is conservative I see no issues. Moniter heat the first few minutes, that will dictate everything.

Seems like an OK combo to me. Those 35c packs will handle the high burst current just fine. The only reason I see for you to go to 5000 mah packs would be for speed runs.

as for speed runs i do open it up but never hold it there. its always off and on, but im not afraid to top it out with my 4s lipos right now. |
You should be ok but alot of peeps here would say go down to a 18t or lower pinion for safety.

That will be fine. I'm running a mere 5A 20C = 100A for over half a year or something and they perform just like my 30C versions. You can probably drive with 20/44, but 18/44 would be safer. I would also advise to start with 18/44 and if you feel the car it to slow (or just want to experiment) do with 20T and keep a track of your temps.

ok thanks for the advise guys. i have extra pinions already so ill give it a go.

just placed my order. rcmonster never had it but rc lipos did and i also found a discount code that saves 10% Only $63 shipped all the way to Canada! my lucky day i guess. time to go pull the flux apart now and change that pinion.
Are Novak pinions any good or should i be ordering a new one right now to save the hassle? |
Personally I think the RCM pinions are the best, Robinson and Novaks are a tie for second.
|
ok well if i have any troubles ill invest in the RCM pinion. Thanks for the heads up!

I can't believe how farking fast i've already worn out my stock HPI pinion on my Flux, I may need to replace it sooner then I thought
|
ya i just toasted mine on the last run. im thinking when the old man hit post it knocked the motor loose.
( i know, never let anyone drive your rc's but its my pops. lol.) |
buying this lipo is the kick in the ass i needed to get motivated to clean the flux up and fix her up a bit. i might even do a little thread about it. Stay tuned folks.

well guys i just wanna thank you for the guidance. the lipo came in about a week ago, and tonight i finally got some motivation to solder. i charged them up as a 5s pack and let it fly. took it easy at first, and it seemed good, temps were at 70 F on the motor and packs, esc fan was off. The highest the motor got too was almost 100F and the packs were only warm, no where near hot. ESC fan kicked on near the end but only after speed runs. it was a cool night tonight so ill continue to monitor temps, but still a big thanks guys! the truck is great on 5s.
