I have a problem!
Hey everyone! I have come to a conclusion that I have a problem, and RC addiction. Half of my aptartment is RC stuff and it has taken a lot of time out of my life. Almost to the point that I have no life outside of RC. I have started putting together a 1/12 scale carpet car to keep me occupied over the winter. I may have to put it aside and not let it run my life!

This posting is worthless.

I'm sorry you don't approve! Everyone bables about the most random stuff here. I think it's useless to be talking about video games on an RC forum but they do. I'm just admitting I have an RC addiction and if I'm not on here for awhile it's because I'm trying to keep that addiction in check

Sarcasm is such a ruthless thing through words.
No I was trying to let you know that your preaching to those who share the same problem. If you took my last post wrong I apologize. If the three RC's in your sig are the only ones you own your better off than some. Honestly it is a good hobby, there are much worse things one can be doing or spending money on. If it is a financial concern as it once became for me, just take a deep breath. RC is always there for you, it will bring you joy. If it is no longer a fun thing for you, if it is becoming more of an annoying thing that you do while trying to find something else, than good luck finding what it is you really wish to do. I went through a period where my life wasn't all in check and I felt that RC was just stupid, then I got my head right and realized that it was something I truly enjoyed in life. Therefor I regained my love, and even got back into racing. So I wish you luck figuring out what RC means to you. |
It's only a problem if you think it is.
I don't have any problems.....nothing wrong with me at all...... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_J4abfC3p5Q...0/turk-bum.jpg |
Correct.
Reno is correct. R/C means different things to each one of us. When my wife presented me with my first RTR EMaxx over 4 years ago she knew that she was starting me off into something that may cost us a lot of $$$$ over the years, but I do not drink, nor do I smoke, and of course drugs are for losers. She knows where I am and what I am doing so she supports my hobby 100% without question. As for me well I have very much enjoyed buying, configuring, and building each one of my R/C projects and hope to remain involved in this hobby until I am no longer able to do it.
Today is the first time in many months that I have worked on anything R/C because of lifes issues, but I have been in here nearly every day just to keep up with whats happening in our hobby and with our friends in here. Even my kids were supprized to see me in the shop today when they arrived home from school. They are off from school on Wed and now want to spend the day working with me in our R/C shop. Yes money has been tighter for everyone, so projects have been exptremely slow to come together. We now have 8 Maxx R/C trucks in our collection, along with 4 helis, and I have other aspirations like the Baja 5b, and a crawler which will come some day as well. R/C is my one vice, which I have involved my entire family in. If this is so terrible, oh well. |
Welcome to the club with the rest of us sick-o's ?
If keeping your hobby in check is nessasary I see no problem w/that. Everyone has to set limits and realize when to much is to much. When it came time for me to upgrade to 2.4Ghrz I purposely bought the model with a 10 model memory to help my collection to stay at a minimum. It didn't help a lot but it has helped some, I have 10rc's I run regular and another 7 built and sitting in the closet on the top shelf. Why sell them when I'll never get what I have in them, I figure they will not go bad from sitting ? For what it's worth I've found this hobby very theraputic and rewarding for me, I've ben heavily involved in RC for 25yrs and now more than ever it has helped in more than one way. I have a lot of stress at home takeing care of my elderly father (Advanced Alzheimers) and the RC's are a geniune escape in the evenings for me. Without them I'd probably be a rageing alcoholic trying to drown self pity and depressing thoughts. |
Ok, deep breath, LOL. I have more than what's in my signature, I also have a slash, a revo vxl, 1/12 carpet car, and two helis. Money is part of the issue when I sit back and look at how much I have spent on them, but it's not a concern, I'm not going into the poor house from it. I still love RC don't get me wrong! The problem that I have seen lately is that it has taken up so much of my life and my apartment, in the last couple years. I have dedicated so much time to it that I have lost out on a social life with some of my friends, thats the biggest concern. Since I have been between race seasons for about a month now I have spent more time with my friends and been having a blast. I have friends at the track but they aren't people that I would really ever hang out with other than at the track. I'm prolly gonna sell of a few things, maybe all but my truggy and carpet car so I have something I can race in the summer and the winter. I may not race a full season, just a few races here and there. Then get a multi-purpose basher such as a Savage Flux, basically cut back to 3 vehicles. I think the helicopters are cool, but I don't get any enjoyment from them, they are going for sure! I will still be checking out RC-Monster but maybe not 4 times a day!

I understand better now where your coming from. It's safe to say I've crippled my social life a little as well concerning friends whom do not RC, I dont talk to them nearly as much as I used to a handful of years ago. The hobby got more involved for me when Lipo and BL hit the scene in a big way, more power more fun more time invested. Maybe this is why it seems I have fewer friends as years go by ?
3 RC's sounds like a great compromise, Do what you need to do to make yourself happy Bro ! |
I also love rc to the point that I am always thinking of how to improve the ones I have. Let's see..I have 2 on going projects..a MRX-3 conversion..not likely to be finished any time soon and a Slash 4x4 overall that hopefully will surprise even a few here!
I have slowly gotten some of my closest friends into the hobby again even though it has cost me personally quite a bit of money. However, seeing their 40 yr old faces light up when their rigs go screaming buy makes it worth it. RC has been in my blood since I was a teenager and been there ever since and forever will be. |
Find happiness
You have to find happiness in your own way. If selling off some of your stuff helps you reach that goal then good for you. I know what you mean about the helis. I have one of my own, but hardly fly it. Our boys have them as well, but are always waiting on me to take mine out. I prefer the MTs because of the easy fixes you can do on the run. Most of my Maxx gear is quite valuable in my eyes, and the builds I have going are top qulaity and unique in one way or another. Not sure how things will end up for me, but I have no intentions of getting rid of anything unless something serious forces me to do so. My wife loves walking into our R/C shop seeing what I have created and seeing the joy on my face working in my very own shop. We were speculating last night on how much I will miss this shop when we have to transfer next June, and whether of not I will have a space in our next house for another R/C shop. Life goes on.
As for social scenes I am quite happy being home with my family. Going out partying ends up being a blur in your past anyway. I have a very select few friends, and they are lifetime friends, so my hobby has nothing to do with them. We do still go out occasionally when the Embassy has events, but rarely feel the need to go out unless a special event is going on. We do go to the movies when new flicks come out, and those are free for us. Anytime we go out we call it date night. Even the wife hopes to be involved with R.C at some level. |

On the social side I am lucky or unlucky depending how you look at it. I've had many close friends but they are always people close to where I live or workmates. As a result they come and go. Since having a family things have changed in that I make less time for socializing. If your gonna thin the herd, maybe think about doing a swap for what your after. I have swapped rc's just cause I thought the car he had would be easier to sell. Heck I've even swapped stuff at the LHS. |
Sometimes
Sometimes you just have to take a step back and leave things alone for a while. Take a break and do other things that make you happy. Give it a rest and come back to it when you have more time and money to do things your own way. Your right too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Then with a fresh perspective you can make an educated decision on what to keep and what to get rid of. Life never waits for anyone. Time marches on no matter what we do. Good luck with your decisons.

i know how it goes, i have way to many rc's too
