Hmmm. Mounting a 1518, 1520, or 1717 in a Savage?
Anyone know if the FLM motor mount will fit on the stock savage flux motor plate?
I'd rather buy this than have to grind out the stock motor clamps. http://www.fastlanemachine.net/prodi...misc%20001.JPG If it won't work, anyone know a mount that will? BTW, I'm running a DB17 if that makes any difference. |
Jamie is doing a mount for a 1717 at the moment ;)

I think that was originally off his savage bl conversion kit. IDK about the bolt pattern tho.
If no one knows, you can try to call him, perhaps he can even make a plate, and failing that, a simple plate can be made from alu yourself w/o any complicated tools. Even a modified stock motor plate should work. |

EG Skid Plates Its listed as extended, and there is a std plate. They are intended for some of his tvps, but they will work on other tvps, but one doesn't know the length to figure out which one, if any, would fit. Such threads are not infrequent, and prolly could be avoided somewhat if more information was more readily availible. |

I think the 1717 has a different size than the 1520 or are the mounting holes on the same place ? |
IIRC 1717 has 25mm spacing but 4mm holes and is obviously fatter so needs a different mount...
Jamie has my 1717 for test fitting in the FLM Baja Savage chassis |
Alright. I just ordered a 1717 in hopes of being able to buy or make a mount.
|
Alright. I found a nice hunk of steel at my job and it will make the perfect mount. Its bent intoa rectangular tube shape and I will cut an offset L out of it. Its 1/4" thick so I can thread the bottom to hold the mesh adjustment screws.
Once that's done, I'll have to cut out part of the TVP to fit the extra long motor. Now I just need to figure out how to gear it for 6s power. |
I made for myself that kind of mount for 1520 motor, for 1717 it will be just a little thinner at the bottom.

Interesting, 4 wheel steering or is the motor in the front?
|
motor in front.
|
Ok, how does it handle with the batteries in the back? Does it fly level under power?
|
Its definitely more level with the batteries in the back. Before the 1717, I had the batteries up front in the boxes. This helped out with wheelies a lot, but was very front end heavy.

Hey guys.
New to this site. Got pointed in this direction as my current project consists of a Savage X SS being converted to brushless running a 1717 motor. Some great pics here. Have run into a few things from research here. Like nitro tVP wont allow motor to fit. But I have an idea for that. few questions I have. Do the flux run the motor in the front standard. Didnt think they did??? If not how did you do it? Was it simple to just turn trannsmission around or?? What gearing did you find to work well. Few people I have spoken to say they cant get the right gearing to load this motor up enough. Any other tips you can give would be great. Cheers |
