Flux owner reporting for duty

Hi all.

I recently traded my Summit for a rolling Flux (no electrics apart from the servo).

I'm trying to build it up as economical as possible while still having raw power.

I found the following items that I'm planning on using to build this truck:

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...0kv_(600_class)

Turnigy Typhoon 600H Heli Motor 1100kv (600 class)

Max Current: 60A
Diameter of shaft: 5mm
Length of front shaft: 23mm
ESC: 80A

Hobby King 150A High performance Brushless Car ESC
Specification:
Cont./Burst Current: 150A/1080A
Resistance: 0.0002 ohm
Suitable Car: 1/5, 1/8 on-road and off-road cars / trucks For competitive race
Suitable Brushless Motor: 3.5T (3660)

Would this be more then efficient on 4s or should I go 6s and dual motors (with the use of a motormount from a E-Savage for example)?

The motor seems a bit light/small.

I would definately advize to buy a CC motor. Choose for the 1520 or 1717 . For those prizes there is no better value for money.

I do realize that the motor is small however it is a outrunner type motor. They provide loads of torque while still being small in size.

It's a shame that CC doesn't offer any guarantees because they have limited supplies for replacement parts :sarcastic:

I would defiantly buy 2 1518s or 1520s from castle for $65 each u can't go wrong with those prices my 1518 has too much torque!!

Motor has low kV. Stock motor is 2200kV. Top speed would be rather low unless you used a large pinion but then you might be overgeared for what the motor can handle. HK don't seem to have many suitable motors, least that i can find.

Will the CC 1518/20 fit in a stock Flux? They are longer than the stock motor. The 1512 might be better?

Maybe you could score a Flux 2350 alphastar motor on ebay for cheap?

ESC looks appropriately spec'd

Keep in mind, that esc is limited to 4s use. With a 1100kv motor, you would need to gear pretty high for a good bashing speed.

Like mentioned, I would get a CC1518 and run it on 4s. You could use that ESC as well. Would be a much better setup.

HK motor : Basic line is that you can't expect to much from a $35 motor in a big heavy Savage Flux.

CC motor : Guarantee or not, still a awesome price :)

I don't believe a 1518, let alone a 1520, will fit a stock Flux based on this picture (I took a long go back, before I went XL).

But I'm not sure!!

The 1512 is a 1/8 buggy motor and it's not advised to use it in heavier trucks. The 2350kv is an economical option on 4S.

ps. don't go messing with dual motors.

Thanks all for posting.

I'm trying to order my ESC and motor from 1 supplier. This because of the shipping rates.

I just saw someone on this forum who had bought this motor (also from HobbyKing):
KD36-74-06XL 2800kv Brushless Inrunner

It seems it's a knock off Feigao. Only problems that are known is that they tend to run hot.

I think I will settle for this motor. Saw some good reviews about it. I wanted to try an outrunner to be different but what the heck.

Buy a blur/Tokyo combo off eBay.. can be pretty cheap. Other motors you may need to mod the motor mount to get it to fit. The 1600/1800kv CC motors have a different can so you will need to grind out the inside of the mount. Should barely fit lengthwise

PWND PM me I have some electronic that would pair greatly with your Savage. Budget friendly.

Bmr4life 09.29.2010 02:18 PM

Do not but that HK motor. That is a very bad idea.

Finnster 09.29.2010 02:46 PM

Buy cheap, buy twice. The CC deal is by far the best deal you can get. High quality motor at an insane price. Get the 1518 and run it on 4S. Bigger motor can be geared up some extra speed to make up for lower rpms. Then you are set if you ever upgrade to a 5S+ capable esc.

If it were me, I'd just run that esc on 5S anyway. Its a crapshoot with that cheap chinese stuff anyway
