How to Stuff Large Castle Motors into an E Revo?
 

I just got my first of two orders from Castle. Thank you Castle!

Secondly, I would like to say "Dang! The Castle 1717 is HUGE!"

Has anyone managed to stuff the Castle 1717 OR the Castle 1520 into an E Revo?

Please share your setup info. Pictures are a plus also!

I've a 1520 in my G-eRevo with Mikes centre diff mount :)

What voltage are you running and what top speed are you geared for? Pics?

One thing I noticed about the 1520, The Magnets seem VERY strong.

Had to take a 1717 apart and inspect it's intrals. LOL

The Magnets on this huge rotor are very strong. It measures 23mm in diameter and the magnets are 43mm long.

This thing MUST be a beast.

6s 5K's 30C - I'd say mid 40's which seems about perfect for what i want.

Whats great about this setup is the weight is so low in the chassis.

The Motor makes the Castle Blower look small. Were motor temps warm without the fan?

The 1520 shouldn't be hard to fit into the E Revo. I've been looking at the setup. It won't fit in the lower position. It's too long and the shock mount is in the way.

It appears like it will work in the upper motor position with the twin motor plate. This motor is so long. Does it need any additional rear support?

It almost appears to be a bit large for those small 3mm mount screws.

Honestly I would brace underneath - Thats why I have a piece of delrin under the motor between the TVPs - You can see it in pic 1.

Only mod I need to do is to thicken up the diff oil a little more in the CD.

I have my 1520 mounted in the front/upper position on the dual motor mount, traxxas front swaybar clears with no issue. It won't fit in the rear/lower position. If I remember correctly, in the lower/rear position the 1520 extends past the rear shock mounting screws, so even a short shock mount won't help. The 1520 is fun as hell on 6s, but the front/upper mounting position doesn't help handling. Body roll is ok for bashing, but there's too much weight up front. Transitioning between under and over steer is not very predictable. And the stock motor wires barely make it to the esc.

Edit: added pics and measured my 1520. The red arrow indicates where the 1520 would end up in the chassis. Almost touching the shock screws. Maybe if the mount was aluminum you could shave enough down and maintain strength, but only if the motor mount was shaved down to move the motor forward too.

I'm in the process of seeing what gearing is going to work for this. I just mounted the motor in the front position.

What's your gearing on 6S and how's your temps?

I wonder if this would work on 4S?

One suggestion. If you would rotate the motor 90 degrees and bolt it back up, the motor wires would come out the side and not be so much of a target for damage.

I think everyone is going nuts with these motors. I ordered a couple 1717s, 1520s and a 1518 and I'm not sure what to do with them yet or even if they fit in anything I have. I'm thinking we have this all wrong. Wouldnt a 1512 on 6S be more than plenty enough for these trucks? I guess thats no fun.

I've got a couple of 3905 emaxxes and it looks like the 1518 and 1520 should fit. I dont know about the 1717 yet though.

I did a search and over at the traxxas forum some guy is running a 1717 on his erevo and he just barely made it fit.

A 1512? Well, thinking back about the Medusa 4 pole motors, it would probably be enough.

It's all about the fun of doing something different.

21/65, and I was seeing 150's after 15min on 90 degree days. Switching from stock old style maxx tires that were filled with sand to Proline Mashers and the Castle blower brought it back into the 140's on hot days. Think part of it is my worn out lipos, they come out warmer than I'd like. But this is also the redheaded step child of my fleet. Bought it for cheap and I beat the snot out of it too, lots of hard braking, etc. I'm suprised I've only taken out 1 rear diff so far.

I'd clock the motor 90 degrees, but I think the sway might hit. I never tried it because I always run a body. Except for this one time and of course she traction rolled when I was just "testing" something. Got lucky it was going slow and didn't fray the wires.

We'd like to see it. :eyes:
