TCS Black XL TVPs

Got these in the mail today along with the esc relocation plate. Man i cant believe how thick these plates are! And they look good installed on my beat up old truck! haha. However i cant decide how i want to mount the esc, either with the traxxas holddown or without. I kinda wish the plate was wider so i could have room to mount the trx holddown in any direction, seems like sideways is my only option unless i want to just use double sided tape and a ziptie. Have any of you guys used the TCS setup on your flux? If so how did you do it? Pics?

I'm right there with you man. I have all my parts out and plan on getting to it this weekend. The ESC plate wasn't available when I ordered my black TCS XL TVPs but I want to move it down low so I picked up the engine mount braces. My plan is to cut my own plate out of aluminum and use the TRX holddown. i assume there should be enough room to mount the ESC the normal direction since I'm not making a cutout like the TCS plate has for the power switch since the TRX holddown has a switch mount already.

I have the 5T plates... so far so good. I think 5mm was a bit of an overkill, 4mm would probably have been about right.

I just used heavy duty velcro (http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2103345# I believe thats it... ) to mount the ESC to the standard Flux ESC mount; but I also don't use the post that ties the mount to the motor plate.

5mm may be overkill, but that is what makes these TVPs cool. It seems fitting for this brutish truck to have a chunky overbuilt set of TVPs. I don't thing the drivetrain will be any worse for wear running these compared to other XL TVPs. I also really like how the screw heads are recessed into these. It is gives it a really clean, finished look especially when converted over to socket head cap screws.

Got the esc mounting figured out, just went with doudle sided tape and a ziptie. still look pretty cool, but i dont know why HPI orders these motors with wires that are 6inches long, it would look a lot cleaner with shorter wires but i suck at soldering so the long wires were tucked down with another ziptie. I need to get an extension for esc because no matter what way i route the wire it will not reach the reciever, only by like a half inch though.

i meant motor mount but thank you would it be easier to do that or grind the fins down??

mac3194 10.30.2010 02:13 PM

and how much needs to be ground down for a 1515 2200kv??

Knez 10.30.2010 02:19 PM

CC Motor 1515 is 40mm and with fins is 42mm wich means 2mm to grind off on motor clamp or 2mm fins on motor... well i grinded the clamps as i didnt wanna grind the fins

Agree, I would rather grind on $35 clamps instead of hacking on a $150 motor.

+1. My 1518 looks horrible after my hack job with the Dremel and different grinding bits.
