Tough Truck Hybrid

Started with a bunch of slash 4x4 parts from when I upgraded mine to RPM stuff... Scanned ebay for ages looking for a summit transmission and finally scored one for $40...

Started throwing it together at the weekend and everything came together so far pretty easily. The trans mount is a piece of 1/8 CF mounted to the chassis on some delrin blocks.

I managed to hack together the front driveshaft from a couple of revo outer CVD cups and a dog bone I had lying around. The rears costing more than I'd hoped with a Mip setup.

Tires will probably the 1.9 Flatirons from my first crawler stretched onto 2.2 wheels - I tried them on a pair a SLW and it seems to look like it'll work.

Its setup to run 2X 3s Maxamps 2000mah as saddle packs either side of the transmission left over from my LCC and wouldn't sell.

Motor is a 13.5T/RS Tekin with the 14mm rotor left over from the RCDriver Rock Racer project last year.

Shocks will see how it turns out but threw on some Integy 3.5" for the front and 4" on the rear from the spares bin.

I'll figure out the front bumper once the get body/frame is sorted.

I'm rubbish as build pics so here it is now...

As for the body and tube frame for the rear thats beyond my skills so I'm calling upon our resident GSRCRC Club tube guru "JMZ" to help...

He managed to find this treasure in his bag of tricks...

I'm curious as to the reasoning behind the 2 speed?

Arct1k 11.02.2010 06:38 AM

Summit transmission has lots of reduction. So you can go slow for rock crawling and also balls out between gates or in the woods.

Your rear shock mounts look flimsy :P

Think I might use these rear arms :)

Very cool, I would love to build something like this. I started looking around for a Slash 2WD roller when I saw RC4WD was releasing their Hardcore Solid Axle Conversion kit, then when I found out it was $350 that kind of burst my bubble.

Arct1k 11.08.2010 04:59 PM

$99 of that is the new rear axle which I traded a set of old AX10 lower links for...

JoFreak 11.08.2010 05:31 PM

Reminds me a bit of the hardcore slash, but I like that desgin!
Looking forward to the finished build.
You plan on keeping it 4wd for crawling I guess?

nitrostarter 11.08.2010 06:01 PM

Chris, how are you going to make the front and rear widths the same?

Looks good tho!!

Arct1k 11.08.2010 07:27 PM

I've used got different sized VP offsets to help - I probably need to find a pair of axial extended hex's to do the rest...

This is a fun thing rather than a competition truck

looks good so far, i love to see projects like this

I had to abandon the idea of using the CORR rear links - They are just too long and the MIP drive shafts were not going to reach...

Back to plan A for now... I did a lttle more work on the build. I purchased Vanquish Razor shock mounts and the Vanquish 4 link.

The rear links were also swapped out for titanium...

Its now been shipped off to the guy who's going to do the tube work.
