Tamiya F104 Pro

Gday F1 fans,
I have finally got acceptable footage of the car.:yipi: Not yet dialed in 100%, but getting there. She's running a brushed Mad Science Kyosho Krypton Krystal, 28/93 direct drive, ebay 300amp esc, lol, good for 50amp. Rubber Tamiya tyres, 2s 3000MaH 30c lipo. I have 5700kv Castle Pro combo, but the car was way over powered. When or if my skills improve, i'd like to put such power in this car. Graphs, photo and vid for fans of older Kyosho electric motors, Tamiya F1 and my ramblings, lol. Pete http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p.../th_F1plus.jpg |
Nice! But overpowered is nice, I would like to see a MMP/neu setup on 6s Geared to the moon:party:
Like... 80Mph:yes::yipi: |
Thanks.
No need for Neu or 6s, lol. I should be able to get close enough to that speed with the Castle Combo on 2s in the future. But for now, even brushed, it is a handful. I'm new to F1 pan car type cars with T-Bar rear setup. I had issues with the ball diff & setting it up correctly too. So far, I can accelerate the car to demonic speeds from half throttle in a straight line, back off the electricity, turn in and it will grip like a real F1. Dead stop to full power just results in the arse end coming forward. The brushed Krystal is around 4400kv. I have found that just trying to put the power down is the hardest part. Even though power is only minimal, the car only weighs 1kg with battery.:yipi: I'm trying expo on steering, little throws etc. I didn't go today due to rain, sob... Pete |

Gday,
Now I am trying 25/93 gearing and foams. I have the car at exactly 1008 grams with 40 grams of lead added. This is with HobbyKing 3000MaH 2s - 30/40c lipo. I think the car was really designed for the 7.2v NiMh stick pack with the extra weight?? Anyway, I am progressing steadily and falling in love with rear wheel direct drive, lol. First I went backwards by putting the powerful Castle system in it. I should have started the stock way, learnt to drive an F1, then put the Castle Combo into her. I am only getting more excited.:yipi: I got a bargain on the 04 module pinions 20 & 21 when she goes brushless with 5700kv. Standard pinion on F104 Pro is 25. So for now, the Mamba Pro is in a Mini Losi Slider with RZ300 running G3 3s lipo. It is a beast. When I am happy with performance of the F1, and my driving, I'll make her brushless. That's it for now, more photos. Pete |
I have an 80's version of that (in the John Player Special paint) in a box somewhere. Yours looks a whole lot nicer!!

Shhh, better keep that quiet, JPS F1. The F1 fans from many other r/c forums will offer you plenty of coin for that if they read this.:yes:
Thanks for your kind words mate. It really is a nice kit. I like to build all my r/c and this car has been a mighty challange for me to drive, lol. I am only going to own one F1, due to other r/c, but I love it. Perhaps & maybe you should get the JPS on the roads mate?? Love to see it. Regards Pete |

F1 fans,
Stock Mabuchi 540 silver can test in F1 gets around 160 watts, fyi. Pete |
Nice to see it without a body! Sounds good, I can imagine that itīs pretty hard to get the power to the ground in such a light car. Canīt wait until you make it brushless:yipi:

Nice car man.

Thanks men.
Here's a vid I took before when Australia actually had sunshine, not 7 day of friggin' rain. F1 onboard cam. http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p..._onboardf1.jpg |
Gday,
I had alot better results with the car this morning:yipi: . Much to my disgust, I returned to an Intellect 7.2v NiMh stick. It put on another 300 or so grams and now the car is a champion. I think there are some lipos which have a hard case meant specifically for cars? I need one the same size as the NiMh pack and the same weight. Here's a short vid of this mornings run at the dusty and rocky courts. Rear helmet cam, http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p...f1thursday.jpg |
how is the performance as far as speed and handling go
|
Hi magman,
It pushes a bit going hard through corners. It's geared now 25/93, so my acceleration has dropped off a bit for more top end. Sometimes when I come out of a turn and get the power on steadily, it is really cool. The way it holds its line and just rockets forward. Other times it will sort of drift, correct and hold, drift. It sure is alot of fun now, rear wheel direct drive. It's sort of like my tunnel boats, you have to drive them. I'm sure the crap surface I run on is not helping at all either. When I run forward cam, I see little pebbles all over the place. To the F1, they are boulders. The spur is as exposed as a nudist and easily damaged. I'm thinking of getting a flat peice of steel or lead that weighs 200grams, cover it and put it under the lipo next time. So I don't have to purchase yet another battery. It would have more power again over the NiMh. My mate is making his stock, so we'll get a comparison for you. Hope I answered your question. Pete |
Here's another of the forward Key chain cam from today. I need to insulate it better from vibration.
Running brushed, the esc heatsink warms up nicely with the Krystal motor. I put a fan in the left duct of the body shell and power it off ch3. Listen to under load, lol. http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p...1thursday1.jpg |
