MBX5 Shock tower question..
Hey guys :)
I recently had the opportunity to pick up another mbx5 roller, with a whole schwack of spare parts. Looking at them side by side, I noticed the shocks are spaced differently, they are further set apart on one, compared to the other. Im sorry, but I am a noob to bugs and trugs, and Im curious if maybe the wider ones (right) are an upgrade, or something? Ill post a few pix so you can see what Im talking about http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/359/img3913h.jpg http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3544/img3914b.jpg http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/6645/img3916fs.jpg http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8485/img3918zc.jpg http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/5889/img3919h.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/644/img3920a.jpg |
Wonder if the person who owned it put on the truggy shock tower? The MBX5 series are really similar, I think there was even a pretty simple buggy to truggy conversion Mugen put out. But I am fairly new to truggies, so just speculating. Hopefully Magman or one of the Mugen experts will weigh in, it is curious. Good pick up though.

Thanks for the reply hombre!
I will have to measure my 5t nitro chassis, Im pretty sure its a bigger piece of alu tho. Im not sure what to say about it either, Im a bit baffled myself, wich is why I made this thread! I will also compare shock towers to my 5t, I am pretty sure they are bigger then the buggys tho.. Iim at work right now, so I cant say for certain  |
Well since you have the 5t too, you would have known that already, should have read your signature.....reading is fundamental....
Wonder if Mugen updated the buggy, isn't there the MBX5 and the MBX5R? When you get home and check let me know what you find. Cause the metal looks the same, so one would think it is a Mugen part vs another aftermarket brand. |
Lol its no problem man :)
I am almost positive that almost everything on the truggy is bigger, but I cant say for certain until I get home in about 3.5 hours from now. As far as I know there is the 5b 5r and 5t, tho right now Im not sure what a 5r is, after I post this its a quick trip to google for me heheh. Yup, the alu is definately the same colour on both buggys and the truggy, at first I thought maybe I got a mbx6, but it doesnt look like a mbx6 to me  |
The prospect towers are 1 or 2mm thicker than stock ones
|
Yup, all of the ones I have are the same thickness, nice and beefy. My question was about the width of the shock towers, one buggy has the shocks set closer, and at a steeper angle then the other, wich has a wider shock spaceing, and a slacker angle :)
|
they could be off of different models of mugen...mbx5 or mbx5R for example.
|
Right, so until the mbx5r was mentioned, I had totally forgot there was one..
Google images shows the same towers on the 5r, so I guess the rest of the parts were updated to the prospec stuff afterwards. Ahh well thats ok. I still like it, its too bad winter is almost here.. but at the same time its good because I need to familiarise myself a little more with what I have.. Ill take all the good parts and throw em on my bce chassis and my gf or something can play with the other one. |
don't forget to re-shim the diffs! I had to add washers to both my mugen truggy and buggy so there was no movement in the gears
|
Well.. She lives!
Ill take it out for a test rip tommorow :sunny: I think this thing is going to be a beast! I hate how I have to place things tho.. Maybe Ill try out a stock chassis, well see.. Now I have to get a new motor mount for my truggy lol http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/6267/img3966.jpg http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8719/img3969b.jpg http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8468/img3977oa.jpg http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/4125/img3973s.jpg Some quick specs: Mamba Monster with Castle 2200kv geared 16/46, Airtonics RockCrusher 200oz servo, Ofna bigbores, Badlands, 2x 2s SMC 40c Ill put the prospec shock towers on tommorow 8) |
