12s baja 5t post build ** New video

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0397.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0396.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0395.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0394.jpg Above are some pics of my BL 5t that is finally running. I purchased this truck almost turnkey from a board member. The truck had the following items with it when I purchased it. Neu 2220 2y 550 kv motor w/fan and ribs Hyperion 35c 6s 5500 gen 3 lipos (2 total lipos) RCM brushless conversion kit Pistix stick TR quick diff Craftwerks layshaft Darksoul axles extenders After market rear hubs/axleshafts Solid rear spool HD gears in the gearbox Hostile one pc rear hubs Upgrade brake servo Upgraded rear brake setup Proline Trencher tries all around Aluminum rear bumper with wheelie bar Castle Creations Pro BEC RCM 16 and 18 tooth pinion gears 58 tooth spur gear As you can see it was already pretty nice machine when I got it with about zero run time. In other words it was MINT. I have purchased these items so far: Overkill aluminum rear upper a-arm with both aluminum and steel heim joint. Not installed on truck yet Overkill front heim joint. Not installed yet Castle Creation Pheonix Ice HV esc For a radio I'm using a Airtronics FHSS 2.4 radio The truck is currently geared for 60 mph. I need a bigger spur or smaller pinion to slow this truck down. Today was the first time that I have ever drove or seen a baja driven in person. Very different from my BL e-revo/BL savages/BL Losi XXL trucks. The Ice HV does not have brakes or reverse. I started with the power take off setting at "low" and the throttle response set at "slow". I ran it like this for about 20 minutes. Which was long enough for my first crash while jumping. haha This bent my rear aluminum bumper pretty good as you can see in the pics. I then changed the settings to power take off "medium" and throttle response to "medium" This was more like a "normal" brushless truck. I went to the local park and had a blast for about 20 minutes, until the my screw cam off my layshaft letting the spur gear go. Bad news is I lost that screw and had to stop playing. The truck has incredible power. It easily over powers the Proline Trenchers tires kicking the truck side ways when ever I wanted and power slides were no problem at all. When the tires did hook the truck would willie too. So far for run times I have only made it about 20 minutes. The first battery pack I had to get back to work and of course loosing the layshaft screw cut the second test session short. I did check the lipos at the end of the first run and they were at 35% full. So I'm guessing 30 approx minutes run times. you can buy bigger lipos 6500 vs 5500 , but I'm not sure the bigger lipos will fit. I'm going to look into this very soon. I was able to recharge the lipos in 27 minutes after the first run, thats both packs in 27 minutes. If you have any questions fire them off. This will be a ongoing build as I want to replace the stock steering setup and lighten the truck. I'm thinking of going back to the stock rear bumper. I would also like to relocate the brake servo to allow more room for larger lipos. As long as we are talking about brakes, the rear brakes were having trouble slowing the truck down. I will look into that more at a later date. Tim |
WOW a 12S baja! I love the size of these...just wish they were 4x4. Yours looks great.
|
Very nice Baja!
Really love those trenchers too! They look really meaty!! |
the tires are meaty, but its like driving on ice with this setup in the local park.
I plan on getting some of http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.5966/.f for both the front and back. I have heard nothing but great stories about these tires. I can spin the trenchers at will right now at any speed. |
Great Baja.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0399.jpg Can you guess which tires were on the back? Thats after about 1 hour of playing. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0403.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...h_DSCN0402.jpg If you cant get traction get a bigger tire!!! These are Imex J-dawgs, 8.50 inches tall, 4.50 inches wide. I now have some traction. Wheelies with easy, drives in a straight line, life is fun again. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...DSCN0407-1.jpg Here you can see were the body was rubbing the pavement. I was able to do this with the Proline Trenchers tires. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...DSCN0405-1.jpg I have vids of the truck from tonight running the larger tires. I hope to have more vids tomorrow showing what kind of speeds I'm getting by using a radar gun. |
amazing!!! those aare huge!!! i have some 6.9" moabs and they are heavy!!! these must weigh a tonne... but with that powert i guess you need the weight for stability and traction....
cant wait to see the vids |
