street tires to peel out?
 

usually been off road and dont have time anymore. thinking of getting some different shocks and street tires and making my Hyper 8 a street machine..

any advice is greatly appreciated!

should i go for a softer or harder shock? obviously going to lower it during this transition.

sorta thinking of taking off the front drive shaft and seeing if i can get it to handle like this one

zip ties? how? thanks for the tires links! too bad i have like 6 sets of dirt tires and dont want them.

You don't need zip ties to lower the suspension. The free way to do it is to use the downtravel limiting grub screws in the a-arms. They contact the chassis and determine how far the a-arm moves down. Just screw them in until the desired ride height is achieved. Zip ties will do the same thing, but are more awkward.

There are no grub screws on the suspension of that buggy conversion he had. Its a traxxas conversion. So zipties or the fuel tubing is the way to limit suspension.

No downtravel limiting screws on a hyper 8 or Losi 8ight buggy? I find that hard to believe, maybe they got lost, but the arms and chassis should have the provisions for them. Traxxas conversion? I'm confused, what am I missing here?

wow, i feel pretty stupid right now...

so i got everything out tonight, charging up my batteries to see how bad they are from sitting for 6 months..

my spur gear on the Hyper 8 Brushless is gone and i cant, for the life of me figure out what brand to get or what size or anything. 16/46 is whats on it now and i think it was doing alright on temps, maybe a little hot last time i had it on the street. at the track i remember i had pretty good control over the temps.

anyways, what brand spur do i order? does Robinson sound right? what do i look for as far as sizes or do i just make sure its for a buggy? 1/8th scale? i seriously feel stupid for not remembering. then again i was never the brightest with this stuff. i had a good buddy who always helped me out with things like this...


edit.... higher on the pinion gear and lower on the spur to do faster or slower(quicker) or what? help me with that too.. thanks guys

Surely limiting down-travel is a barbaric way to lower ride-hight that will ruin the handling, when encountering a dip in the road that tire will not be able to drop to keep in contact, also any "body-roll" when cornering instead if raising one side of the suspention and drooping the other side will have to raise the one side more and roll the chassis to keep the side that cant droop on the ground meaning that your camber will be far from ideal.

The correct way to reduce ride hight is to use shorter coilovers or to raise the upper mounting point both of which which will keep the geometry the same.

They will get some traction. But I would HIGHLY suggest the GRP tires. they are good to over 100mph with the glue job. and supposedly belted. So for HIGH speed drags. None better ....

I have heard good things about Ipanema and Sweep belted tires, they have both radial and slick. If you really plan on going fast (50+ mph) then you probably want the belts. Otherwise I was told for general use stock Inferno GT tires with a tape job will do alright, that's what I'm going to try myself, but I only plan to gear for 40 mph.
