Carnival Cruise Ship
 

Been on cruises, not my cup of tea by any means. Here is something I don't understand though.

Why is it that the people are forced to stay on the ship on unsanitary conditions and with minimal food and water?

Why have these people not been evacuated by the plethora of lifeboats on board? At the least the elderly, those with children, and ones with greater health risks should be evacuated.

I have a good friend in the travel industry and for sure Carnival is the trailer park of the cruise ship industry but still, can't they do better than this? I mean they are responsible for taking care of their passengers and it amazes me that there are not better systems in place to avert this kind of disaster.

I know that logistically it is not simple but that does not mean plans and solutions cannot be implemented.

Anyway, my .02 and God bless all the people on board and I wish them all a safe return. I am sure many will never step foot on a cruise ship again, even with the refund and free cruise they are all being offered.

They are already back, about 7:30 this morning.

While they were still far out at sea it must have been deemed a bigger risk to try and load and transport people on the lifeboats, than to let them deal with the conditions on-board. It was only 3 days I think (not that I would want to deal with it, but can't see anything that life threatening). I'm sure if there where any people at risk of serious harm they would have evacuated them accordingly by lifeboat or helicopter.

I've been on 2 cruises, both Carnival. First one went off without a hitch. Second one the boat broke down bringing back the previous group, so we missed almost 2 whole days of our 7 day trip, and Carnival's repayment: everyone got $10 credit at the gift shop. We calculated the cost of the time we missed out on to be around $100-200 per person. Everyone on-board was a bit pissed about that...

I'm was surprised that a massive boat like that didn't have a backup generator big enough to at least get the ship moving again.

But things happen. Survivors of a plane crash would be in the same situation. At least the ship controlled the fire and everybody still have their lives.

Exactly, why in a ship that size would a fire in one area have the ability to shut down the whole ship. Seems to me there should be a better design. Of course these are the things that happen when ships are registered and built outside of our own soils. The cruise ship industry purposely does this to avoid US regulations and taxation. While in some ways I understand this in others it puts people at greater risk.

Carnival does a piss poor job at looking after it's passengers that's for sure.

Also the last report I saw only said the entered the harbor this morning and that it would take several hours to get it docked and several more to get all the passengers off.

Article I read said 2 hours to dock, and as many more to get passengers off, so they are probably getting close to done.

It has even made it onto our news here too. Not that well informed on the Cruise industry or even keen to spend anytime out at sea but if you pay all that money I think you would want better treatment. Yes I know problems can happen with anything mechanical but they really should have better procedures to deal with situations of similar nature. I can't believe that they had to have Spam (holding back spew here) airlifted onto the ship so they could feed the passengers. Spam!!!!????? WTF? Not even my dog would eat that..........but that's OK. I am sure that Carnival will hook all the passengers with a $20 coupon for their next holiday. :no:

Latest update just now said ship just arrived at port. You can bet whatever time estimates the give will be best bet scenario, remember BP anyone?
