Inferno GT2 brushless

Hey guys I need your opinions. So I'm ready to do another Inferno GT project but this time the GT2. On my GT1 I ditched the 2 speed and the mechanical brakes & just installed a single speed & let the ESC do the braking & it works flawlessly this time however I was thinking of using the RCM GT2 conversion kit which uses the 2 speed & mech brakes. What do you think is it worth it or just stick with a single speed?

I am currently converting a DM-1. I am going to start with the 2-speed and mechanical brakes, but will most likely go with a single speed and motor brakes.

I think I'm going to stick with the single speed setup, I hear the 2 speed setup of the GT2 is not that good & the 2nd gear tends to get destroyed.

Pictures?

You could use the new GT2 tranny:

This works better, as there is only 3 tooth difference between 1st and second(doesn't hit as hard). you set the shift point fairly low(shifts early) to minimize the damage.

I still say stick to the KISS theory (Keep It Simple Stupid). Why have all the extra moving components to wear and tear when you don't need to. Also if you use a decent ESC then ESC braking will not be an issue. If it can haul up my 13lbs Monster truck it can sure as heck pull up a 1/8th touring car. Also I don't see the benefit of using a two speed in a light weight car like an Inferno GT. Decent brushless motor will do fine without it.

Well pics will be up soon, I've been busy with the conversion but she's almost done. I did stick with the single speed as this worked flawlessly on my original IGT.

I want to say single-speed is the way to go for electric.

I think I can remember a discussion before about this. Some of the reason for nitro vehicles having a 2-speed is because nitro motors need to "wind up" to higher RPM before producing full torque. If you tried to start out in 2nd gear they wouldn't have very good acceleration, the nitro motor would get bogged down. So having 2-speed is effective for nitro.

For electric, the motor has full torque from startup, you can start from 2nd gear (or in most cases 2nd gear is just the main gearing, there is no high reduction 1st gearset)

I am going to run a 2sp in my 7th scale on road car. Why? Cause I wanna go fast!!!!!!!!

Plus I have driven a few nitros that I converted with mech brakes and 2sp trans. If you drive it right and let off a little during the shift it will be just fine.

very nice car

2speed onroad is alot of fun, i still use 2peed off road on afew of my truck and i havent had many failures but i also am useing a clutch to absorb alot of the shifting impact

alot of people who have never used a 2speed in an eletric project hate on it and i dont know why, when set up right they are often just as quick, sometime quicker

Looking good mang. That Aston body is my favorite.

IGT_7x 01.08.2011 05:10 PM

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yeah this car should be a blast. You can tell though that the IGT 2 is longer so with the Corvette body on it, it looks very scale. I used the single speed because it works really good on my original IGT & it goes ballistic on 6s. I do still use the 2 speed on my LST2 conversion & that thing as heavy as it is goes like a bat out of hell on 6s.
