Is this normal?
I just received my first Tekin motor a T8 1900kv for buggy and the first thing I noticed it doesn't feel like a Castle's 4 pole motor when turning the rotor. I'm used to Castle/Neu motors and just wonder if anyone has an answer as to why does this 4 pole motor from Tekin seem to not have the torque that the Castle/Neu motors have. Or is this part of the sensored feel of a 4 pole motor.

I can't speak directly for Tekin or Castle but I have both Tekin and Castle motors and know exactly what you mean.
I think it is just a matter of the design of the motor. I have two Neu 1512s. The older one feels like a Castle motor, the newer one feels like a Tekin motor. When I called and asked Neu about it they said it was a design change intended to lower the I0 (no load current). I seriously doubt Nue would have made such a chage if reduced the power output of the motor. I know my Tekin has plenty of power and I've seen what Castle motors can do (haven't used my Castle yet - just got it from the sale). Don't worry about it. |
That is perfectly normal, it has been discussed previously.
it deals with magnet strength and the "slots" in the motor if I remember correctly. 100% normal :) |
Yeah I had the same thoughts when I took my T8 2250 motor out of the box. Guy sold it to me and said it was never used. I almost called hit a liar. LOL. Still though, the motor rips and does everything it's meant to.
Also with the my new 1518 and 1520 the magnets are so strong but with the 1717 it seems much smoother turning by hand. I don't think that stronger magnet necessarily mean more torque. |
The motor was designed to have less "cog torque" which is what you're all asking about. Cog torque doesn't neccessarily mean the motor will have a lot of power. You will find that our motors have a higher efficiency because of this design.

Would be nice to compare motors for my next project and thanks for clearing that up for me. |
I will not release actual figures. But I'd say it was worth another 10-15% on average.
