New guy here!

Hello everyone, great forum and some cool cars on here. Not sure if its cool to post introductions here but didn't see a specific spot for it.
Name is Mike, I bet ya couldn't figure that out!! Anyways, I got three RC vehicles and will be converting just about all of them to the Castle systems and Li Po, I will do the MGT if they come out with a conversion kit. I am new to the whole Li Po part of this but no wheres near new to RC. I do 1/5 scale gasoline boats/ trucks when the family, friends and I head to the local sandbar by boat. I also am into Nitro somewhat but want to move all the way to Electric now. Anyways, I got the MGT which is pretty much stock but wanting to convert it to electric eventually unless I trade it for one of my buddies set ups. I have the Kyosho 777 with lots of upgrades, and just ordered the electric conversion kit for that one, will be adding the Castle system to this and a 6s. Than I have the HB Stadium Pro truggy which I got brand new in the box and will be selling off all the nitro related stuff soon, than buying the electric conversion kit from Mike on here for that and go with a Castle setup as well. I only know of the Castle setups because thats what my buddy runs, maybe theirs better setups out there but I don't know, need to do more research. Just wanted to say hi and so far I enjoy this place very much. Keep up the great work guys. Heres some pictures of what I got.. Looking to get another Spektrum but the fancy digital screen ones!! I do have a question, what are some of the better chargers out there that can charge more than 1 Li Po? Thanks Attachment 9521 Attachment 9522 Attachment 9523 |
Welcome to RC-monster, Mike, you'll like it around here, its a tight-knit group with some real weirdos/ characters
So far as BL systems go, the 'best' depends on what it is you want from the system and how much you are willing to spend; Castle systems ( MMM & MMpro ) do really well in anything MT and 'uggy shaped, but so too do the sensored Tekin systems- pretty equal specs so its a bit of a personal preference thing that you arrive at from using both systems usually. Tekin does have the advantage of a wider range of motor kv choices, though the castle motors are more powerful by most accounts- you'll see people using MMM escs and tekin motors quite often so I wouldnt get too hung up either way. As for chargers, there are a fair few dual-channel lipo chargers that can do two lipos at once without the need for a home-made wiring harness: http://www.allerc.com/hyperion-eos-1...0w-p-5962.html http://www.allerc.com/hyperion-eos06...er-p-4632.html http://www.commonsenserc.com/product...oducts_id=2229 http://www.revolectrix.com/10s_description_tab.htm http://www.rcaccessory.com/bantame-s...pocharger.aspx http://www.gonitrohobbies.com/TENERG..._DX_p/1250.htm http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=11170 http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...dProduct=10327 Most of those will require a separate powersupply too- there is a nice tutorial that shows you how to make your own cheap & powerful supply: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27554 |
Welcome Mike! Seems Neil nailed all of the chargers you could possibly want. I personally have the Hyperion Duo610I ( newest version) I love mine. Beeing able to charge 2 li-po a 15Amps each is great and a huge time saver. The next Hyperion model up the 710I or something can do 2 batts at 20A I believe.

Or just buy two cheaper single chargers and run them off the 47A supply Neil linked to - that's what I do.

I just plan on using it at home, and maybe sometimes using it in my truck when I stop by the local track. So Ill need AC/DC use. Ive got alot of reading and researching to do also, I started looking at all those links and got alil overwhelmed!! I will read that write up on the homemade power supply as well. I appreciate the help so far, this whole lipo deal is new to me, I swore I never was going to do it because of when they first came out I read alot of horror stories about fires etc. But Ive also heard they have come a long way since than, plus my buddy has been into this for about 4 months with no problems. My buddy is using the Passport lipo charger by Dynamite. It only charges a single battery at a time. He suggested to but two of them since their only 65 each. I personally rather have just one that does two. But I don't want to buy one thats not quality and have a potential fire. Anyways, thanks again for your help so far. I will do much more reading on this and figure out which one is good for what I plan on doing. |

I looked at some of those sites Neil posted and couldn't find the model number you said. I will try to look again, I copied and pasted what you wrote. Ill try some more and see what I can come up with. So let me see if I am correct, the more amps the charger is charging at, the faster the battery will charge correct, to me yes? lol Prob to some of you is a stupid question but you gotta start somewhere and I'm just starting!! Thanks again. Mike. |

What brand, model number chargers you using? The Passport I mentioned about above, are they any good? I mean hes (my friend) been using it for a few months with no negative effects so I guess yes, but I want a charger that charges lipos fast and I believe his takes an hour or so to charge a 4-6s, don't remember which, hes on vacation now and cant ask him that info. Thanks Brian. Mike |
The passport ultra is a nice charger, built-in powersupply and fairly decent spec ( 100watts vs 50watts which most ac/dc chargers are limited to ), but it will only charge on lipo at a time; never seen any complaints about quality. I'd skip the regular passport lipo charger though as it only has fixed charge rates vs fully adjustable settings.
http://www.dynamiterc.com/Passport/ A couple of cheap 50watt DC chargers wouldnt be such a bad setup though if you were only charging 2-3s lipos on each, would still get about 60-80minute charge times at most, then run them both from one large PSU. If you went that route, you can get the chargers for as little as ~$25-40 each with no complaints about quality: http://www.hobbypartz.com/60p-dyc-1004.html http://www.hobbypartz.com/75p-t606-charger.html http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7028 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7523 Just a small selection- there are so many chargers like this its overwhelming.. |
Neil,
You ain't crapping about it being overwhelming man!! I like that Passport Ultra you posted. The most Ill be using is a 4s and a 6s. I have driving some of my buddies cars with the 6s in it and love it. I'm the type of person who likes to have more than what I need, I can always back off on something rather than pushing something to its blowing up limits or plain ol just cant get more out of it. Like my pressure washer and airless paint sprayer, Ill never need what those things are capable of but if I ever do I can always have it at my fingertips (I have a small painting, home improvement company). But thats just me, I always want more though!! never satisfied I am!! Thanks again. I am also trying to make a decision really soon as my parents are waiting for a Christmas present idea from my wife and since I cannot think of anything else I will tell them to get me a charger. |
