Buggies and drifting?
 

I recently got an rc8e and wasn't expecting to have fun drifting with it but I think it could be fun for a little while. I don't really know much about drift set ups so if I could get some direction that would be great!

I've read lots of toe front and back helps and locked diffs is a personal preference. Try and steer with the throttle. What else can I do to make it easier (without a d-box)? Would it be better to be front heavy?

Setup is mmm, 1518, 6s A123/5s lipo. I have 4s but that doesn't have much speed with my largest pinion (17t).

It's not really noticable in the vid but I was laying blackies on my driveway:rofl: I think the 35C day temperature helped.

just spool the center diff, i like to take my lighting out drifting and kill off all my old racing tires with style

Wow.....drifts pretty well! no suggestions from me, not a huge drifter, haha. But lock the center for sure. :)

Just go with really heavy center diff oil. Than practice practice practice. I have a warehouse in the back of my office and when I know it is going to be a slow day I bring this guy to work and put out some obstacles to drift around. Fun when your in limited spaces. Thing about drifting is you steer it into the direction you want, gun it, counter steer to get it in line, than throttle in and out through the turn while counter steering and straightening the wheels. Looks like you pretty much have the idea of it. Oh and one way bearings help a bit. Helps whip out the butt end.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Where do the one way bearings go, Reno? I don't think I need it but just curious. BTW what chassis is under the VW?

One way bearing goes up front in the diff. It grabs when moving forward but spins freely when you hit the brakes to act as if your hitting the e-brake!

I don't have one in mine, hpi makes them for certain models, I am sure it wont fit in mine. Eventually I will get in there and mod my front diff to allow for a one way bearing. I have drove a buddies hpi with the one way installed and it is super easy to get the rear out and into a drift compared to not having one.

Under the bus is an Exceed RC Driftstar, brushless and modified of coarse.

Do you still use it Jason? I don't think I'll go the whole hog like you. I have worn the back tires to slicks now (6-8 packs) and is a little easier to control. I was going to leave the body clear but I couldn't help my self and have made a start on painting:sarcastic: Now I need to hurry up and finish it:whip:

I also have a spare rc8t chassis, that'll convert it to an sc8. Would the longer wheel base make it easier?

Nah ...sold it to a mate,he now lives in queensland,it was fun on 6s too...scary fast!!!!!

the longer wheelbase will make it easier,I got some 300,000wt diff fliud if you want it ,I used it in all three diffs.
I had a SC8e too......they are pretty cool BUT got bored with it ,so sold that too

Previously buggies, sc trucks and 1/10 didn't interest me that much because of the low clearance. I got it mainly to run outside my house. I'm glad I got a buggy, it seems like a versatile platform.

yep.. still got it ,my son uses it alot,cheers mate.....you'll have to bring the buggy next time you come up racing ,you'll find it easier than the truggy as long as you don't over power it...lol

Oh no! You sold the beast Jas? Your mate doesn't want to sell it, does he? I love the way you built that thing? Wanted to build one my self but never got around to doing it. Let me know if your mate wants to sell it.

This thread made me want to get that one way diff going so I looked into it and Exceed makes one for their MadSpeed Drifter. I ordered one from NitroRCX for like 7 bucks. So even if it doesn't fit since it isn't exactly the same car I am not out too much. I'll post up later once I find out, also try to get some video.

Hey BB ,didn't know you were on here too............I'll ring my mate and find out if he still has it........shorty after he brought it from me ,he had it for sale on RCTECH.

I was looking around at drift videos and thought this was alright. It's nitro but a well set up car I thought.
