MGT 8.0 conversion - maybe.....
Hey all,
Long time away from the forums (posting anyway, I usually lurk), and I had converted one of the older MGT's over to brushless, and loved the thing. I ended up parting it out and selling it to clear out some stuff a while back, but I'm itching for something new and interesting. I have an E-Revo now, fun truck, and it is quite bashable even though it's geared towards the racer. After I got the suspension tuned and got used to it, no issues. I really really really liked my MGT's that I owned, I think I had 3 or 4 over the years, in both nitro and brushless conversion flavors. I was thinking of doing another conversion with the 8.0 truck, but after searching, I'm not seeing a whole lot of them floating around. I'm concerned about long-term parts availability and the truck being sorta "left behind" due to the popularity of the savages and even the t-maxx. The main reason with the conversion of the associated truck is I just really liked it, working on it was a snap, and parts were dirt cheap (relatively speaking compared to some of the others out there). I'd just hate to do the conversion again, and then have parts get sparse, or them come out with a new truck right after I do it. Are MGT's still popular anywhere? I don't run with anyone, or frequent a hobby shop to ask around casually, so I'm hitting up the forums. I guess if anything, I could stockpile enough parts to last me a long time! Thanks all, 10k |
Well...in my 3 yrs on these forums, I have only seen 2 conversions. One is here...http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...&highlight=Mgt
I have always been intrigued by these trucks, but, never done a conversion. I personally prefer my brushless mugen truggy to most monster trucks with the exception of the savage. |
If it helps sway your decision after my Hyper 7 is finished I also intend on converting a 8.0 (if I can find one cheap enough, may have to do a 4.0~). I'll have my MMM sitting around when my Mamba XL shows up, and I bought a 1717 during the Castle sale. I even have a pair of battery trays and a center diff sitting around...
If you decide to go ahead with the build make sure you post it up and the more pics the better :-) |
