Look what I found..
Here it is, the best that FD can come up with. Direct to diff inrunner and he says it will do over 100mph on 3s. Must be using the new MA 150c lipos...
http://www.finedesignrc.com/ct-kyoshooption5pics.htm I can imagine it must reuqire the MMM set for max start power and really reqire some killer lipos. Like 5000mah 40c cells in 2p. He does mention 2p, I just cannot see my 5000mah 40c 6s pack being powerful enough to get a big beast up over 100mph. Maybe it would, but the current draw would be massive. |

The days of 2 pole inrunners are all but gone. I've wondered about oversizing a 4 pole low kv motor in a setup. Hmmmm..............it would have to be around 650kv or less. |
Looks like he must be using a 1527 1d. 2300kv seems like a poor idea, why not go to a 1527 1y at 1250kv and use 6s lipo? A pair of 4000mah 40c 6s lipos in parallel would provide plenty of power and the amp draw would be cut in half over his setup... And from what I can gather the Y wind motors are better. Interesting idea, especially if he added options to go with an even lower kv motor so that people could run 6s and do 70mph or so.

A 1527 2.5d, 925kv on 6s would give right at 80mph.
This would be a great use for the new XL esc, 8s and that 2.5d would do over 100mph, and if you drop down to 4s it would be good for parking lot bashing. Plus you could have 2 4000mah 4s 40c packs, and either wire them in series or parelle depending on what you wanted to do, go fast or play with killer runtime. I wonder how to score a neu with the shaft extending out of both ends? Or should we just do this with outrunner like we always do! |
I am actually thinking of one day doing something similar, though I'd like to use a pair of planetary reduction gears on either side of a 1520...
|
Wow, on an inrunner. No way I'd do this. The instantaneous currents would be enormous, efficiency would be poor, no gearing options, the list goes on.

The option 5 has been on their site for a while now. More than a year for sure. I looked at it and to be honest there is a lot of things I like about it. Weight distribution would be great and I really like cars with as little moving parts as possible. Apart from looking cleaner there is less parts, less things go wrong. less things wear out, less money spent on maintenance. What I didn't like is the motor. Just like you guys said, it's too high of a kv and trying to take it 105mph on 3S would end in........well I don't think the ESC would last long with that kind of amp draw. Still I think the concept has merit and could work very well if right motor was used.

I know Patric said that the MMMXL HV is good for 12S but only 10S if using motor brakes. Is this just a case for 1/5th application? What if I was to use it in a 1/8th on-road application. Would I be able to get away with using brakes on 12S or not? I wonder???????

hey guys ,don't get me wrong ...I love the power and the speed...But really where on earth are you going to be able to drive a rc car doing 100mph plus
you would need a control line to keep it going in a straight line....lol.....not to mention a smooth very long road. its not the speed that worries me ...its the stopping the bloody thing before it self destructs....lol |
Drag racing & speed record events^- I thought FD would be completely out of business by now, based on that business article back along; he must be getting pretty desperate and trying to appeal to loonies with setups like that..

That thing runs on BS and loaded with empty promises.
