Wide knuckle for the XL?

I am not particularly happy with the extended axle + spacer since it puts alot of stress on the bearings. Especially if you run 50mph on a pair of unbalanced terra pins

So I started thinking of alternatives...

The custom arms + dogbones is one way to go, but it seems rather expensive. Not to mention that I cant see Alu arms as an improvement...

The other option would be a set of "wide knuckles". The stess on the bearings would be much less since thay would sit further appart (the spacing would be between the bearings instead of outside the outer bearing). The more I think about it the better the idea seems... but does the part exist? Ive tried to google a bit but cant really find anything :(

Rpm needs to make extended arms for the savage, and then we can buy the FLM axles to go with it.

So totally agree.

Or FLM needs to machine their extended arms out of a nylon material.

Would wide knuckles or extended arms give the best turning radius... or is it the same? Id imagine that a wide knuckle would have a sligtly better turning radius?

I think the turning radius would be better on a wide knuckle setup, but the ideal setup would be extended arms for more suspension travel IMO, less strain on the knuckles and the pins supporting it too.

Kershaw designs sell an extended arm kit that is made out of nylon. For 200 bucks it seems a bit pricey, but it does give an addl 50mm per side. Comes with the arms, longer turnbuckles, and the axles, dogbones and diff cups. I guess you get alot of stuff. No idea if his nylon is any good. If it was cheaper I would try it.

200$ is way over the top for my RC budget :)

The wide axle idea would be a single hop up which could enhance all existing XL's at a much lower cost. guess it has to be custom made though as no 3rd part manufacturer has it afaik :(

The standard XL come with a longer axle than all the other Savage X/Flux trucks. I probably wouldn't want to go much further with an axle extender than what is already available.

The other, as one or two have started doing, is to switch to using truggy arms. They are a bit longer than the Savage arms, and almost all also use an axle extender. Might get a bit more suspension width out of such a setup.
Should really measure my RC8T and Savage XL and see what the difference from hub to hub is.
