So I finally did it....

After months of pondering and wondering if I should get one for a variety of reasons, I pulled the trigger on Friday. I'm really hoping a new track is gonna get built in town and we get organized enough to do some SC racing this spring. Immediately after taking it out of the box, I knew I wasn't gonna do much bashing with this thing in comparison to my Flux.

Its been 4 years since I owned a Traxxas model since my Revo 3.3 and im fairly impressed with the build quality of the Slash 4x4 after taking it apart mostly last night to check things over. I'm not gonna drive it until I get my outerwears cover for the chassis. I"m not totally sold on Traxxas products yet or SC in general, but at least i'm giving both an honest shot.

Not gonna do much for mods until I make sure I wanna keep this thing. I refilled the shocks with 50wt oil and stiffened the springs for general snow bashing/racing. I"ll throw in the center diff and redo the diff fluids if RC racing picks up here. Thing zips around pretty good on just 7cell in the living room, I'm anxious to see 2S and 3S though I was surprised to see the instructions for the center diff stated 3S is not recommended for it as it may seize and fail due to the stress. Hmm.....

Looks like a 4x4.

good luck with the VXL ESC, they seem like hit or miss with the BECs on them. Otherwise should be fun! Tires don't look as bad as they used to be...

Its a Slash 4x4 ultimate

You should have gotten the 4x pede. As far as racing goes...I tried it back in the day and raced in the novice class and had lots of fun. After a few months I was bumped up to the Stock class and that is when it went from being fun, to being not fun and a pain in the ass with all of the politics and BS. Hopefully its different where you live. Ill never race again.

Nice Freeze. Now go out and have some fun.

Semi Pro 01.16.2011 08:11 PM

i have had great luck with the vxl systems, i have owned 4 of them and all of them have never had any problems

Bondonutz 01.16.2011 08:40 PM

Hope you race it, you might have a lot of fun.

3s and high traction will kill the diff for sure, On the track is a different story.
I run both of my Slashes on 3s with a 1509 2Y w/o any diff issues(I run them on the clay track only)

I would def look into some organized racing once the snow melts, it brings a whole new level of fun to the hobby. That is as long as your there to have fun and not so concerned about winning or braking parts, go have a good time and hang out with a group of people that share a passion for the same hobby. Maybe if your lucky there will even be some nice eye candy at the track, there's a couple nice looking girls that come to the track I race at, some with boyfriends, some with there dads, and I'm not talking underage girls, there are some girls that enjoy watching the races.

Until then, go out and beat the crap out of the thing in the snow! If your on hardpack snow the holeshot SC tires hook up incredible and the Caliber SC's aren't far off. Also look into some 17mm adapters so you can run buggy tires. SC tires get scarse because it has become so popular where as buggy tires are always available
