HobbyKing 4WD Short Course Truck..

Wow, looks exactly like a Slash...

SunnyHouTX 01.17.2011 07:30 AM

I'd say the similarities with the Slash end at the body. Chassis might be somebody else

Cody.McP 01.17.2011 08:16 AM

Eh, silly Chinese copies. Seems like they are just copying more and more these days..

I am with you on this one. It looks to be very different under the shell.

In reality, many rc cars look similar under the shell and the slash 4x4 is not exactly a revolutionary product. Cool, yes. Durable, yes. Fun, yes. However, unique, not so much so.

So true. We've run into this problem in the drag chassis area too. Not the chinese but domestic manufacturers knocking off of one another. It's comical really. That's part of the reason we decided to over engineer the Urban Assault chassis. So far it's worked in stopping blatant copying.

Hehe, I forgot the "More pictures" function, so I only got a glimpse of the outside.
The chassis is very different
Oops!

That's awful... rawfuls

I was considering helping my friend get one of these to start the hobby, but the shipping from China is just so ridiculous that we decided to try and get a Redcat Earthquake 8E instead. Only $300 RTR on eBay with 2.4GHz, a couple 2s 3200mah Lipos, and a somewhat decent brushless system. It's 4wd as well, which is a bonus.

We did some research and found out that that short course truck is very similar to the ACME Trooper. The ACME version comes with an FM radio and Hobby King's version doesn't come with a radio at all. Other than that, they are nearly identical. And we still haven't found a source of parts for them.

That's what I'd mainly be concerned about, parts support. Right now they don't have any listed, and if they ever do list some it's likely to be in the China warehouse. So you could be out for 1-3 weeks at a time when something breaks. An option would be buying 2 and using one as a parts vehicle, but at that point for the cost of vehicles and shipping you're looking at $400+ so it would make more sense to just buy a Slash 4x4 and have parts available just about anywhere.

Love or hate Traxxas, that is one thing.. you can always get parts! HPI is almost as good in that department too.

how can you complain? its a buggy setup with steel drivetrain for 160usd

thzero 01.18.2011 03:59 PM

And the first time you break something... then you will be complaining.

simplechamp 01.18.2011 04:29 PM

And for me the calculated shipping was $50. So now it's a $210 vehicle, which may or may not ever have parts support. As I said the only way to get parts is buy 2 of them, so now you're looking at $400+ for a unknown brand SC truck of unknown quality.

like traxxas dont break :)
im not planning to purchase it im just saying

No one said that. BUT YOU CAN GET PARTS FOR TRAXXAS VEHICLES READILY. That was the point.
