HV, Magnet seperated from the shaft
 

I have a problem with the HV-Maxx i just got from MTEnthusiast. The magnet is slipping on the shaft. I cheched with MT and it is outside the warranty window so i decided to try something different. I am going to try JB Weld and bond the magnet and rotor, there should be no problems with the sensor because there is nothing to hook into so i think the magnet is the sensor(which makes me wonder how its sensored).

I'm kind of taking bets on what people think because i already started with the fix at 8:15 pm est time and think it will work, but wonder what others think. Who knows it might be a cheap fix for an otherwise useless rotor. have results around noon or later tomorrow EST time

I wonder if squee could do this to his xl motor he had. Will be an interesting thing to see if it helps. If it don't I pack the one up I have and ship to you larry. Then you have it covered either way.

I had this happen to a ss5800 rotor once,a replacement rotor was really cheap.

actually coolhand, i think mine caused the windings to get burnt so the wasnts really anything good in it although mike said he was working on getting lehner to fix it since it was one of the ones that werent glued properly in the first place.

The windings are protected like an armature so i don't think they are damaged.

What i wonder about is how the sensors work. i have looked everywhere except behind the end plate and don't see a sensor setup anywhere and nothing to key the rotor into (Rotor is round with no flat spots except where the pinion goes). So, how is it sensored?

one other thing I touched the throttle once to determine that the magnet was slipping and the magnet turned as it should. If the sensors were attached somehow to the shaft, how could the magnet function without a sensor

If this fix fails i'm thinking about tring the 7xl I got without the sensors

I think the sensors pic up on the position of the rotor from the north and south pole part of the armature. I could be wrong cause I know nothing about it. It sounds good and educated guess. :D

You should receive a hv rotor in the mail in a few days. I shipped it out today. So if the jb weld don't work out you still have a rotor to run.

On one of my old 9L's the shaft could go in and out if I use my hands and some pliers. I was actually thinking of finding some 5mm carbon fiber solid rod to replace the shaft. Could that work?

Well its a little late on the results, but it works so farthe only thing i need now are batteries that won't fall out(using stick packs for now) but i wheelied and braked hard tring to make it come loose and so far it hasn't

A little tip for anybody running the HV W/fan with the Gorilla mount. The stock kit hex bolts will work, but you only get a few threads in before tightening. I found a screw that works, Traxxas part number TRA2556 header screws are long enough and correct thread and come 6 to a pack so you have spares

Combatcm: I don't know. i'm sure the rod could work but not sure how adhesives will affect the rod. Maybe somebody with CF experience can provide some input

im not sure if it will work but im pretty sure as far as adhesion goes it shouldnt be a problem.
