2wd Pede thread
Seeing how popular these old beasts are, I figured I would start a thread.
I have a few, and am looking for some insight from other owners. Things like favorite hopups, shock setups, homemade fixes and upgrades. Stuff like that. Mine is a partial vxl with pretty much everything rpm on it. Run a 2070 servo, sidewinder sc sytem, 3s 5000 25c neu lipo, 58t jato spur and 32p 14t pinion. Stock vxl wheels with stock talons. As for what I have noticed: The jato spur is a great addition, but you will not be able to fit the gear cover. Not an issue as the 32p gears seem pretty tough. Rpm bumper is a must, the lower rpm arms are very sturdy too. I currently have the fixed length rpm upper links on it, but I have too much neg camber on the front, and will be buying some vxl spec upper links off ebay soon. Rear fixed links seem to be fine, so they will stay. Stock servo saver blows, swapped it for a black kimbrough (sp?) saver as they are alot better. No wheel time on that yet, so I will have to see. I have used them on old emaxx with great success, so I have high hopes. I have stock old pede style shocks, black springs on the front and red rears. My rear shocks suck, one is leaking and it binds at about half travel, making wheelies unpredictable at best!! I would like some shock suggestions, can be traxxas or other brands. I want something sturdy, as I do bash this guy pretty hard. Maybe some of the smaller bore 1/8 buggy shocks? Since the front pede shocks are shorter maybe buggy fronts there and the longer buggy rears on the back? I will get measurements, eye to eye and see what I can find, but experienced recommendations would be much appreicated! |
I thought people used front losi 8ight shocks on pedes? I could he wrong, and from what I've seen the FLM pede is freakin badass!
|
Any hope you'll be starting a "Gold pan RC10 2wd" thread next, I'm realy curious to know what guys have been doing with them over the last 20 years?
Kidding of course... |

Stock pede/rusty/slash/bandito shocks are 90mm front and 100mm rears, measured eye to eye. Quote:
HAHAHAHAHA, let the fun begin. One question, are you a dr? Does the know65 part mean you like aarp members? Do you get discounts on golden corral meals and movies? Are you really as old as Jerry (not possible)? How about guys in wheelchairs? Harold could do with some lovin and I think you are the love doctor... Maybe you can rig up a MM XL and 1527 motor in one of his "rubber husbands"... Better invest in some hip waders. |
Back to the point...
So jato shocks are 87mm, methinks they will be fine for the fronts, and an upgrade over the stockers. So what springs should I use? Not much weight on the front of a pede, maybe the stock jato front shock sprinks would be good? And some suggestions on 1/8 buggy front shocks for the rear. What should I use? Cheap is good, something ofna? |
Rc18 on 8s? I can see it happening ;-) 8x240mah cells in series and a 30amp HV ESC with a tiny outrunner geared for 20mph...
DrKnow was a nickname I picked up in highschool (a mix between "Dr Who" the TV character and "know it all", IQ of 148) 65' was the year of Chevelle racecar that gave me a love of all things mechanical. I'm 36 going on 85 (5 kids)... And yah, I'd do a guy in a wheelchair :whistle: How about a MMP/2400kv kit in that pede? On 4s? |
First off drknow, little too much info on the wheelchair fetish
as for the shocks I'd say anything ofnawould be fine,as most of the shocks would be overbuilt for this application anyways. You're only problem would be finding springs for 2 different sets of shocks that have close to the same rate so you don't have wierd handling characteristics, and don't ask me cause I have know idea... |

Would the guy in the chair be on top? Harold likes that. He wants to see the fear in his victims eyes. 5 kids, dude, I am 30 and am waiting on the 1st, and last... I feel for you, how do you ever get in the bathroom? |
Have at least 2, they keep each other busy
Only 30??? I didn't think we turned into dirty old men till at least 50  1512 in a pede, I thinks that more motor to vehicle ratio than any of my insane ideas!!! |

Piggyback shocks on the Stampede looks very good. Integy makes some, but I have no idea how good they are.
