BL ESC Recommendations
I have two brushless vehicles to power; one SC10 I received as a gift with a defective ESC and a Hyper Mini roller I've had just sitting. The SC10 will probably be powered by 2S and the Hyper mini 3S.
I purchased a new sidewinder SC system with the intent of putting the ESC in the SC10 and using the 1410 motor in the Hyper Mini. This left me wondering what ESC to use in the truggy. I was thinking of buying another Sidewinder SC, but worry about running it on 3S in the 4wd truggy. While it is 1/12 scale these trucks weigh right around the 6.5 lb limit castle has for the SC system. I know Patrick says that it is more of a CYA restriction, but I wonder if an EZRUN 60A or 80A would be the safer choice. No racing, just bashing. Stock tires and gears, with the option for larger tires/wheels on the mini truggy in the future. As an aside I got the SC10 ESC working by swapping motor wires and disabling reverse. It would run in reverse, but as soon as you tried to go forward the car would stop and reverse no longer worked. Swapping wires got me going forward, but braking would engage reverse and then forward would no longer work, so reverse was disabled. Not sure how long that kludge will work, but I suppose as a backup ESC its fine. |
For the truggy, use either an MMM or RX8.

MMM or RX8 is unnecessary in the Mini, especially if he's only planning on running 3s. Ezrun 60A or 80A would be good enough for 3s.
These are some cheap options; http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dproduct=14635 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idproduct=7188 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dproduct=11743 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...idproduct=8993 Or if you think you might want a higher voltage/change the motor later on, this is a relatively cheap investment: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=10370 These are some of the cheapest options, but not necessarily the best. If you want a product with a warranty, I suggest the Traxxas VXL-3s. It's also waterproof. :P http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...rol-Waterproof |
I would go for Mamba Max pro

+1 on the MMpro. It's always good to have a nice esc that will let you do other things besides what your doing with it at the moment
|
If you can afford it and want the sensored option along with 6s capability, then MMP is definitely the best choice.
|
+1 MMP, and the Castle warranty and support that goes with it. Spend it once, spend it right.
|
Alright so MMP it is. I cn get a good deal on thier MMP SCT package, but worry about the speed of a 2400kv motor on 3s.
It will only be used for bashing in fairly open areas so it will have room for speed. Anyword on higher KV motor package from castle? |
The 1406 series of motors can be had in combo form with the MMP.
That being said the 1415 2400kv that you're referring to will make gobs of power and you could just gear up at 3S. It's a very long can and will make excessive amounts of torque. They even have a warning about drivetrain damage using it on 4S with a 2wd SCT... |
Where is that 1415 at? I could only find 1415 Neu, not CC, and not any combo package..

Many in the castle creation subforum are asking for a 3xxx K/V option with a 5mm shaft. |
the 1410 can has loads of torque on 2s with 3s it just beats on drive line parts in a 2wd the 1415 on 3s geared up will have no trouble tossing a 6-7lb rig around with ease.

Playing with the calculator, 19t pinion should give me 37mph. I just hope the motor mount can accommodate that size pinion.
