Baja 5t Brushless Conversion Performance
Ok, I attached a Garmin Forerunner 101 GPS to my baja 5t today and got quite a bit of hard stats. And took some temps as well after a full pack run with two Hyperion G3 35-65c 5500mah 4S to equal 8s. Temps were all at the very end of the run...I ran it hard up and down my street at full throttle for 60% of the run.
1. Temp outside 55 degrees 2. Motor temp 116 (with no fans running yet) 3. lipos temp 111 4. Esc temp 76 (with no fan running yet) 5. Total distance of run 4.7 miles 6. Total time of run 16 minutes 7. Top speed during run 52.3mph 8. Weight of baja 5t ready to run 28.9lbs. Truck ran great...Traction was the limiting factor on acceleration. Acceleration was definately better than my 30.5cc full mod motor....and best of all. I did not piss off my neighbors as I drive it up and down my street. I know a brushless baja is not for everyone...but for those of us who have owned a baja for years...and now need to keep things quiet, this is a great alternative to a two stroke engine screaming up and down the block attracting unwanted attention. |

To the OP, very good info, seems like a very nice system for sure. A few ?: What do you have the lvc set to? And did you run it from full charge till it hit the lvc? Did you check to see how many mah went back into the packs? |

Thanks for those stats Kirkinsb. I'm in the process of building a brushless 5B. I'm hoping to weigh a bit less than you. Is it a pretty stock baja or do you have some alloy on it? What was your gearing?
I'm also curious about Lincpimp's questions above. Thanks again for posting. |
I run the LVC at 3.2 as recommended to me by CC tech support. I did run a fully charged pack all the way until it hit the LVC. Mine is a baja 5t and I would like to shave at least two pounds of my Truck.
Heck the truck body alone weighs a couple pounds... So on your 5b, you are already 2 pounds lighter. Mine is bone stock. No extra aluminum or anything. The only thing is, i was running a seperate RX pack because a fellow Forum member had trouble with his BEC, and so did I, He ran an RX pack and had no problems...so I am now too. The RX pack is about 10oz or over 1/2 pound. Some guys have had no problems with their BECs on the XL. I did not want to risk it. Your buggy with the little bit smaller tires, body, and without the RX pack should come in about 3 lbs lighter than mine 5t. Just guessing. I would LOVE to get mine down to 25lbs...but I dont think that is going to happen. I am not sure how to check to see how many Mah went back into the pack. I assume you mean because of regenerative braking...or maybe I am way off here. Does the data logging keep track of Mah going back in? If so, let me know..I will look. -Kirk |
When you recharge the pack have a look and see what the charger says for Mah. Just wondering how those packs did under a heavy load.
|
When I recharged each pack, it actually said 6200 or so Mah! quite a bit more than 5500 stated on the battery pack.

May have to return to bajaland, had to sell my 5T 8-9 mths ago as the neighbours were continually on at me about the noise.

Fastbaja5b...it is time for you to comeback. You will enjoy the brutal power and additional speed of the Castle kit. Plus it is quiet enough to run on a Sunday morning in the neighborhood! Since moving to a quiet neighborhood about a year ago...it is the first time I have had fun driving my baja at my house.
