Castle 1415 suggested gearing
 
Howdy Folks,

Just found this document

For a Slash 4x4 they reccomend

1415 (2400kv)
10-14t pinion with 54t Spur

1512 (2650kv)
16-24t pinion with 54t Spur


Is the 1415 info a misprint ?

14/54 would put it at around 32mph running 3s

I am guessing you want to run 3s with it. What battery do you plan to use?

I'm allready running the combo mate was just interested why their suggested gearing range was so low compared to the 2650

I have done some testing and will probably run 17/52 (18/54) or so for bashing on 3s

Well, the 2650 is larger diameter, so it is capable of more torque. However I think the lised gearing for the 1415 is convservative.

Since the 1415 uses the same rotor as the 1515 1y , same diameter only longer then the 2650, it should be capable of more torque.

crusey, I've been thinking about the temps you have seen. The only thing I can come up with is that the 2650 has more surface area to disapate heat. With 2 motors of equal efficiency, the motor with the most surface area should run cooler. But with the 1415 having the bigger rotor, it should be running more efficient at higher wattage.

I guess it's also possible that Castle had to lower the quality of the 1415, to get it in the price range they were shooting for, so maybe it is not as efficient.

Are they intending 3s for the 2650 and 4s for the 1415?

If you follow their suggested gearing ranges you would get the following speeds

2400
3s - 10/54 would be 22 mph
4s - 14/54 would be 41 mph

2650
2s - 16/54 would be 26 mph
4s - 24/54 would be 78 mph

Fairly large difference in their suggested speed ranges ?

The 1415 has a smaller diameter rotor than the 1515. Pdel said it so himself..

So the larger diameter can 2650 will be able to disapate more heat, and will have a great output potential.

TBH I bet they are pretty close in overall power output. I am thinking the lower gearing is to help out the MMpro, as it will not handle as much load aa a MMM can.

I will pick up a 1415, when they get 5mm rotors. I have broken too many 1/8 shaft motors, in heavier vehicles.

I stand corrected, my apologies :) IIRC I had seen an earlier post where he said they were going to be the same, but doesn't look like that ended up being the best choice. quote from Pdelcast

aus, something else to consider with that gearing is the esc. Could be they are using the MMM with the 2650, and the MMP with the 2400. Though they still seem quite lop sided.

I think what he meant was they got better performance with the smaller diameter rotor in the 36MM can (more room for copper in the stator) than they would have if they had used the 1515 size (larger diameter rotor) in the 36MM can,

Not that they got better performance out of the smaller motor than the larger one.

Yeah you could be right mate it may be based on the ESC

I will change mine from 21/52 down to a 17 and take some more readings just to see what it does for amp draw etc...

Curious what the MMP limit is tho, the SC8e RTR Brushless uses a 2200kv Neu 1515 1Y with the MMP on 4s Lipo, and yeah it works, but the ESC fan comes on a bit which indicates to me that it's a bit stressed.

I tested geared 21/52 and hit 53 mph running 3s

Amps peaked at 165 or so

After bashing / high speed passes for 15 minutes the motor hit 175, esc 145, ambient was 77

Did your speed top out? Sounds about maxed out for 3s. I've been running that motor with a good ol Mamba Max on 4s/ubec in a 4x4 slash, can't recall my gearing although:(

That CC gearing chart doesn't make a lot of sense. They have higher pinions for motors with higher kv. It doesn't look like top speed is being factored.

I'm specifically looking at the Hyper 10SC and Slash 4x4 charts.
