Bk 9920 Won't program - Help needed

Hey everyone, I'ma lurker who finally took the plunge, but unfortunately I'm having trouble getting going.:035:

I have a new 380c-6L and a used BK 9920 w/ new ubec. 6cell GPs. What I'm having trouble with is being able to program the controller. I'm following Mike's hints:

"Now plug in the receiver pack/UBEC and the main batteries and wait. After 5 seconds, you will here a beep from the motor. When you here this beep, move the throttle to full power and wait. after another 5 seconds, you will here another beep. When you here this, move your throttle control to full reverse and wait. After 5 seconds, you will here a double beep, indicating that set up is complete. Now replace the red programming jumper and turn off/unplug your main batteries and receiver pack."

Basically I get to the first motor beep, pull full throttle, wait, and wait,.. and wait. Nothing happens. It never gets to the 2nd beep. Not really sure what to do from here.

I have the red jumper pulled, as is the black jumper. I can run the motor in normal mode, and the servos turn, so its not the reciever. The motor is not going full power tho (imo needs programming.)

Also, I bought the controller used. Guy was having trouble with a sudden cogging problem, so I got it cheap. Found a broken solder joint on a cap and repaired it. Nothing burned or loose otherwise. The bec jumper was not installed, so I assume it wasn't used. If it cannot be resolved, what are repair charges? ($70 I heard...) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I had the same problem. Once you hear the first beep, promptly hit full throttle, as in promptly i mean, once you hear the beep, go full right away, you should hear it right after, took me a couple tries to get right.

sounds like you bought nbcaznmaster's controller :005: was he by any chance running it one a 9L? anywho, i have had that problem but for some reason it just stopped and started working properly.

try putting in the BEC jumper...when you program it.....the controller is designed to be setup with the bec jumper in.....when i program mine....I unplug my short servo lead ext. ( it has the red wire missing on the end that plugs into the rec.) and plug the controller directly into the rec....then i go thru the programming process...and once finished I remove the servo wire from the rec...and plug it back into my servo lead ext...with the missing red wire ..and that goes back into the rec...and I'm good to go...

I'm trying to do what you suggested, and after 20 twitchy tries I'm still not getting it. 1 beep and nada. I feel like I'm on a game show... I'll take "things better than nitro" for $1000 Alex... :)

Looks like I may have... Maybe if I post here he could finally answer one of the ?'s I have asked him...:032:

The description sounded like something thing had come loose, and prob repairable. I looked it over and found a broken capacitor solder joint and quickly fixed it. It isn't cogging at all now. I just can't figure out the programming. Dumb...

Lemme try out the BEC jumper thing.

Ok, finally got it. Tried all those things, and turned out it was none of them :007:

Appearently it did not like the reversed throttle of my radio. Not having any luck, I tried to program it in reverse direction (brake 1st), hopefully forcing it to rewrite the mem. Worked right away. Then tried to redo it forward direction, nada.

Instead I turned the throttle selector to "normal," and tried again to program in forward direction, went right thru. Yeaaahhhhh!

Spun the freestanding tires, and it spun so fast the MK2's broke the glue from the rim. :D Now I just need to get the FLM casters & bulk for my rusty I ordered and I can get a working truck to test this setup and the repair I made. Cross my fingers X >l< X Thanks everyone!

Ya I just reprogrammed my controller, after using it with brake and forward only for the past year. It is so nice to be able to back out of problems instead of having to go chase down my truck and pull it out.

Thanks for all the great help guys

i ma having a similar problem. my truck goes like a bat in reverse, but now as fast in forward....any ideas...not to hijack, but....

If you look in the thread about programming BK controllers it tells how to reverse the spin on the motor, that should help you out with the speed in forward.

take out and plug the red jumper?

Big Daddy 04.25.2006 12:42 AM

yup take it out, plug everything in. Wait till it beeps, then put it back in. That should be it.

neweuser 04.25.2006 12:43 AM
