Name that shock!

Hello,

I purchased a used Revo 3.3 roller a year or two ago on Ebay. I converted it and life has been good, until I stripped a shock end on the front a couple weeks ago. As it turns out, the previous owner fitted a pair of shocks that I've never seen before. I cannot identify them and neither can my LHS. This mystery shock was equipped with a traxxas shock cap, spring retainer, bumpstop, and spring, so it is kind of a hybrid.

I'd like to know what they are so that I can purchase a new shaft. Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Note the dual-rate piston setup. No, this shock end is not stripped. It's on the other, non-pictured shock.

This one compares the mystery piston to the standard GTR setup.

Note the provision for the dual rate piston provided on the mystery shaft. The shock shaft below is the GTR one. It is too short to be used in the mystery shock. I would forfeit the dual-rate piston if the shaft were long enough, but it is not.

Ba Dum, PSSHHH!

Could it be a front shock from an 8th scale onroad car? I know the Ofna GTP looks kinda like that but not sure (don't have mine anymore).

It's a GTR shock with a dual rate piston. Standard issue for anyone that tries to race a Revo

Was this an older design then? There is no lower plastic cap on the shock, and the variable damping piston setup is different than what Traxxas sells now (TRA5461)

I was just making an educated guess, it could be an early design though and an aftermarket variable kit.

its not a traxxas shock thats for sure, traxxas dual rate is much diffrent

Thank you guys for your help!
As for the guesses, it doesn't appear to be OFNA GTP--that one has a lower cap as far as I could find online. Additionally, the LHS said that it is not a Traxxas part. The GTR shocks, to my knowledge, have a plastic lower cap. As simplechamp pointed out, this does not.

The LHS guy said that the grey coating looks like Associated, but nothing I can find matches this shock body.

Fine, this shock can be called Ernie.

I have a set of MIP hard-coated black Revo shock bodies but they definitely aren't the same as yours.

Maybe check through your emails and see if you can find the name of the Ebay seller who you bought it from. Try to contact them and ask if they remember what shocks they are.
