Looking for a dual charger that has built in balancer and does not need a pwr supply

Ok guys, taking a stab in the dark...my friend wants a dual charger with built in balancer and does not need a power supply. He only needs to do 4s and nimh batts.

I cannot talk him into a hyperion charger

I have been looking around for an hour or so with no luck...and ideas.

Thanks.

I think your friend may be SOL

Appears limited to 50W charging power per port? If I'm reading it right.

Doersn't look like much better of an option. The user reviews report the amp capability to be around 2.5amps when charging a single 4s Lipo, and that it takes forever.

Maybe seeing the specs of what (little) else is out there will sell him on a Hyperion. Or just get a couple cheapo chargers, one for lipo and another for NiMh.

overdriven, those both need a power supply. :)

I know he is. Been looking for almost 2 hrs on every site I can think of. I told him to buy 2 less expensive chargers to fill his needs, but, by the time he does that, he could almost buy a hyperion dual

looked at all those..me no likey and he is pickier that I am so I know he will not like them. He loves my hyperion duo, but he doesn't want to pony up the cash

Oh yea, the whole power supply thing. I gotta admit that took me awhile to get over that too, didn't want to drop the cash or deal with a power supply either. But if you look at the specs it becomes a necessary evil. Hitec has an X2 (dual charger) and X4 (quad charger) that look alot better than the HobbyKing ones I linked, need that pesky power supply though.

Buy a icharger 206B + 350w PS, and some paralell cables.. I charge 6 batteries at the same time like this (only same type batteries at the same time though)

200-250 bucks at progressiveRC

I was looking at something like that as well...not sure if he wants to spend $250- on a charger though. Although if he buys a single set up w/an external balancer it is still going to be a $100- + for a single unit.

Unfortunately, he's having a hard time believing me that no one makes a simple dual charger that is inexpensive and does not need a PS

Ummmmmm

Well maybe he should look for himself... Then when he can't find anything, he will believe you. :mdr:

220-250 bucks isnt that much, when you think about how fast it charges the batteries..

I charge my 6000mah lipo`s on 20A with this one.. Thats 3 batteries in 1 hour, or 6 in 2 hours! Heck, i even charge one at the time with 20A (Nanotechs, just over 3C) in just 20min :)

The thought had crossed my mind. His personality is such that if he can't see something for himself...well he doesn't always believe it.

I completely agree with you. I hate waiting for batts to charge..my least favorite part of our hobby.

I told him to get into the li-po scene was going to set him back $ 300- or so for a good charger and a batt or two

The best deal I found was a new hyperion 1420i for $ 180- Now IMO thats a good deal! It does everything he wants except the power supply issue which can be had for under $50 used

simplechamp 03.21.2011 08:13 PM

I agree with what's_nitro, tell him you did what you could to search and he'll have to look for himself.

Built-in PSUs work out on 50W chargers because they are small and cheap. But IMO it just isn't practical or economical to make a 200W+ charger with a built-in PSU. If it was they would be for sale!
