Center diff in my G2R maxx

Hi guys! I have been following your forum thread`s for a while-enjoyable reading  Now I´m in the progress of removing my gearbox on the old G-Maxx and want to put in a center diff, since the gearbox isn`t holding up well against my NC1520. But could you guys plz help my out with this? I bought a CC losi conversion kit, as I couldn`t get a hold of Mike`s uni center diff/motor mount, then I bought a Losi smartdiff to drop in there-but even with the 46T spur it won`t fit inside the g2r chassis. any suggestions as to what spur/diff i could use?? don`t want to cut my G-maxx chassis.
Here are some older pictures of the car:

Welcome to rcm.

Sorry not able to check out the pics without joining that site. I am on several sites already and do not have time to join even more. If you would like some help with your project then post up some recent pics of what you are doing so we can assess the situation and give you advice.

Welcome to RCM and enjoy your time spent here. There are plenty of great people in here who have lots of knowledge and also tons of experience with your type of project. Good luck with that.

Try a 44T spur gear. Mike has/had Kyosho spurs in his shop. They fit between the x-braces of the G3, so it should fit in the G2R as well.

I’m using Mikes center diff mount with a 46 tooth Slipperential on a G3R. There must be something different with the Losi diff. People usually don’t recommend the smartdiff for brushless, something to do with durability I think. Maybe you could try contacting him to run another batch. If enough people asked again, I bet he would do another run.

Losi Makes a 43t Plastic spur for the 8e. I guarantee that'll fit between the braces and on the smartdiff. The Kyosho always leaked on my 8ight diff...

Not bad

Not bad Bruun. Considering the handling it looks like you need a UE Mono-block to lengthen the chassis a little bit, and you may want to condsider installing axle adapters to widen the wheel stance just a bit as well. You just have a lot of power for such a short package. Nice looking ride though.

I have been looking at the UE Mono-block, but i`m actually quite happy with the truck as is. It have been geared down to run approx 55kmh. I am going to install the RC-Monster Universal Center Diff/Motor Mount, which I just received as the 1520 tends to break the input drive shaft in my G1 tranny

If you do a search here, you can find a few examples of others who have done what you are trying to do. Welcome to the forums, and definitely post about your progress.

Edit: Running a SmartDiff in the center position with brushless is generally not recommended, unless it is a race rig. SmartDiffs require regular maintenance and even more maintenance (and parts replacement) is required with a brushless setup due to the increased power over a nitro setup. So be prepared for that if your going to use the SmartDiff.

Thanx Overdriven, I have received the new RC-Monster uni cd/motormount, which is looking seriously beefy! and based on what You are telling me-(and the fact that the losi diff doesn`t fit) I will we looking for something else, Suggestions? the motor will be a castle 1518

suicideneil 07.13.2011 03:18 PM

Any regular 1/8 scale diff should fit fine- I'd look at the ofna and hotbodies ones, very cheap on ebay and easy enough to tune ( to reduce wheelies ).

thanx for a quickie
