Flux HP Tork motor bearings?
 

Ok, "Frostbyte II" is under going a serious spring rebuild and I managed to get get most of the Tork motor taken apart other then the rear end which stubbornly refused to come off and stripping one of the small hex nuts, grr........

I noticed that the front bearing was a bit gritty feeling so I attempted to clean it out with soaking it in WD-40, blasting it with brake cleaner and then relubing it with some high quality bearing oil. It feels better but not perfectly smooth either and im ponder weather or not to just replace both the bearings and not take chances. I cannot get the rear bearing out of the endbell casing, I fear I'll have to wack it pretty hard and thus damage it to get it out.

HPI has no part #'s for those bearings and I wanna put in a good, quality bearing for the amount of speed and torque the motor puts out. What would you guys at castle recommend?

To properly clean a bearing you have to remove the shields/seals. If the bearing is gritty at all it is better to replace it than take a chance on it seizing.

However, for a motor, again, it's better to replace them.

I know how to open up sealed bearings but these ones are metal all around, no idea how to get inside them to clean.

if you look really close you will see tiny circlips holding the shields in place. remove those clips. or cough up the 2 bucks for a new bearing

If you have calipers you can measure the inner and outer diameters and the thickness. Then go to avid or boca and order a couple.

Can someone from Castle give me some input on this please? I also for the life of me cannot get the rear bearing out, I've already stripped one of the small dwinky hex nuts trying to remove the endbell but to no avail

Umm, usually the rear bearing never needs replacement. The rear bearing has very little load - - the front bearing is usually the only bearing that needs to be replaced.

So why are you trying to get the rear bearing out?

Well, I managed to bang out the rear bearing at last but it also felt gritty when I rotated it around. Figuring it wasn't worth frying the motor over, I finally managed to figure out what bearing it is, a 650ZZ and ordered replacements from AVID, cheapest I could find.

you spent forever trying to get it out only to replace it with the cheapest bearing you could find? :oh:

I have to agree with brainanator. Not saying that Avid bearings are bad but why not just buy the Castle 1515 rebuild kit since they are cheap and have a very good quality bearings. I can understand if the rebuild kit was expensive but IMO it is dirt cheap considering it comes with a front end plate, bearings, rotor and screws. You will pretty much have a brand new motor if you put a Castle kit through it.

What I would suggest is a 650ZZ bearing from Minibea (NMB) -- get one of the high RPM versions.

Who retails them in the US? Any online shops?
