redcat xb-E 1/5 scale electric buggy
 

anyone have any experience with this yet? 19 pound electric 1/5th scale?

i keep staring at it and thinking castle 5th scale brushless system and some nice 8S batteyrys.

I know I've ben wanting one for a while but I'd need to sel my 1/6 scale Savage first to afford it and just not sure I want to do that yet ?

I love mine, so much in fact I sold all of my other gassers( 2-Bajas, Rampage MT, and even a Rampage XB). On just 6s with the CC 1717 motor and stock Hobbywing 150amp esc it is WAY faster than any gasoline RC I have ever owned. Ive had some pretty potent gasoline motors, none hold a candle to brushless power. I have about 5 hours of runtime on my car and only managed to break the wing. Granted it was 35degrees outside at the time, so it is to be expected. Its the best largescale I have ever owned, period.

Also, the 1717 fit the stock mount ?

The stock mount works but the mounting screws on the 1717 are a little bigger than the stock motor. I just drilled them out and screwed it all back together. The motors width makes it a tight fit, but it does fit.
I have a few videos of it running in bone stock trim against 2 highly modified gassers. Bear in mind when I am racing against the truck, he has a $450 engine (after my discount)and I am waiting on his "go" before I dropped the hammer. Heres the videos, the one with the buggies has the full spec list on the gasoline XB. Also dont mind all the chatter and the kids! :lol:

This buggy looks like the best easy way into a nice brushless 1/6, the 1717 and MMXL seems like a nice upgrade to better electronics.

Could you post naked pix of the motor-mount, and bird view of the naked car?

I went to LargescaleRCs Powerjam June 24-26th and got some serious runtime on their tracks. I was using the stock ESC (Hobbywing 150amp), Castle 1717 and a new motor mount from 7075RC w/larger 48t spur. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to enter the mains because brushless wasn't allowed to compete. I was allowed to run in the two 10 minute qualifying heats though so I could get some runtime vs the gasoline cars. Let me tell ya, on just 6s, I was by far the fastest thing on the track. Even with my crap driving :D
The entire weekend went great the only breakages was a stripped rear wheel (its been slowly stripping out for months), a broken front lower outer hinge pin and the ESC finally gave up the ghost. I was expecting the wheel to strip out, so I brought 4 spares. The hingepin was an easy fix, so easy I changed it during a 10minute heat and still won! lol
The ESC is what threw me for a loop, I wasnt expecting it to go. Sure it had about 15hrs on it running this car and the 1717 but it never even gave a hint she was about done. I pulled the ESC apart at the track and everything seems fine, there was no magic smoke, no burnt electronics and no swelled caps. The only thing that even remotely smelled burnt was the seperate on/off switch. Im still hoping the ESC itself is fine I just need to find a way to bypass the switch and see if it will power up.
All in all it was a fun trip. I had a great time watching and eventually helping other guys scrambling to get ready for the heats. All I had to do was plug some batteries up and slap a body on. Once some videos get posted of it running on the track I will make sure it gets posted up here as well.

The Castle 2028 motor is too big for this. maybe try a 1515 2200kv motor.

True, its way to big, but there is an aftermarket mount available to use the Leopard 5692s :D

With that mount and another 5mm clearance in length the 2028 could be made to fit. Unfortunately, thatd require new dogbones :(

The 1515 2200kv isn't enough motor regardless it fitting, will def have heat issues trying to push this fat pig.
