Wanted: power supply for Compaq desktop
My sisters desktop stopped working a couple weeks ago, we think it's the power supply. Had a storm and power outage, it never came back on afterwards. We have found one new for 49.00, But i thought i might could beat that if someone had one not being used. It's a shot in the dark but figured i'd try.
Not sure of the model number of the desktop but the number for the PS is ATX-250-12z. thanks for reading |

Yeah, Newegg is the place to go. Compaq uses VERY weak supplies and they never hold up over time. They seem to stuff the absolute minimum that will work in the box. My in-laws PC they gave to me was a Core 2 system and it only had a 250w supply. I replaced it with a 700w (I upgraded to a Core 2 Quad CPU and GF GTX460 graphics card).
Even if you haven't or aren't upgrading anything, I'd put in a 300w+ supply in there just to be safe. Even that will only cost you ~$25. |
I can get 450w PS from a local mom and pop shop for around 20-25 bucks. I have bought several for friends and clients of the last few years.

If all you need is a stocker 250W, you can just pick up a cheap higher rated wattage one (the cheaper ones never put out what they said they will), or get a quality 300W.
Cheap = Name brand you've never heard of. Here is an Antec, probably one of the better quality ones: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371003 And one that I use (just in a 600W version) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817159022 |
