Nice! Which gyro is that and how exactly do you tune it? My friend bought a heli gyro to try and help his drifting, but it doesn't work very well at all.
|
you can get them on Ebay for like $20 or so.(ek2-0704B)
This is the one that i got BUT you will NEED a Third Ch for this one. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqR,!h4...-MhFw~~_12.JPG for usen just your 2ch radio you would want this one ek2-0704 for 2ch radios you cant turn it off.(but its hard to find this one now) http://www.helibuy.com/images/helicopters/ek2-0704.jpg For My radio all i needed to do was.... just plug it in to Ch1 on the RX the yellow wire to Ch3 on the RX Flip the switch on the Gyro to REV turn on the Rc.. Wait for the Gyro to set its self about 3 seconds on my Tx my datarate for ch3 is set to 28% !!!! DO NOT GET IT WET !!!! unless your good with electronics you Could take the Gyro apart like i did and Coat the boards in it COMPLETELY with Epoxi i even covered the Delay and Limet controles with epoxy. i set the gyro limet to full and delay to its lowest BEFORE doing the Epoxi waterproofing. DON'T cover the NOR / REV switch as you might like to still use this at some point in time. this is the Epoxi that i use to waterproof with http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2003281_n.jpg Dont mount the Gyro in the CENTER of the Rc!! Here is a photo of my Chassis and you can see were its mounted at. http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7754559_n.jpg |
His looks just like that first one but says Hobbyking on it. I didn't know what the 4th yellow line was for, but I guess it's for the 3rd channel port. He just got a 3ch radio, so everything should be good to go! Thanks a lot, hopefully it will work as well as yours.

let me know how it works for him..

From your directions, it appears that the red/black/white cable carries the corrected servo signal and power and ground. I could understand the need for the yellow wire if that was the one that needed to be inserted into CH1 (steering). |
the Chinglish "manual"
the Gyro will not lock unless you have the yellow wire on a Ch. and is for the Gyro trim... the gyro takes its trim data off the yellow wire and will not initialize without it. even if you don't use Ch3 on your Rx it does have data on it as long as the gyro can see data on the trim line it will initialize you just wont have control of the gyro and how it works. if I use my 2Ch TX on this Ch3 data is +100% by default and the Gyro is Crazy sensitive and i have No control over it. but i use my 3Ch TX All of the time. here is how its set http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6262528_n.jpg the ek2-0704 gyro is a Basic gyro and don't have a trim line you can only set or control the sensitivity by the control on the gyro Hence you can use it on a Rx with only 2Ch The ek2-0704B is a Pro gyro with trim control. yes a "default" mode without hooking the yellow wire would have been nice but no such luck. But you have More control with the trim ...... you can control just how much Gyro you want from No Gyro to Crazy sensitive just by setting the Ch3 Data rate and trim. on mine i have my Limet set to MAX Delay set to its MINIMUM and the Switch set to REV http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5326037_n.jpg http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3368534_n.jpg I hpoe this was a help to ya.......... |
great post, i have allways wanted to try a gyro, for $20 i cant say no

I'm Not Sure How It Would Hold Up Under Hard Bashing (Stock Like It Is)
My Gyro Is Filled With Epoxy So I Don't See Water Or Vibration Hurting It... As I Have Been Jumping And Crashing With It And It Still Works Just Fine. And When I Say Crash Its More Like Major Whiteout 40+ At The End Of The Street Turned The Wheel To Quick And Did A Barrel Roll That Flipped It About 10 Times And It Turned Into A Cartwheel For Like 7 More Flips Across The Intersection At The End Of My Street. It Even Landed Back On Its Wheels And Drove It Back To The House Here. The Only Damage Was 4 Big Cracks In The Body. And The Gyro Is Still Working Fine. So It Can Take The Stuff That I Dish Out To It. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FpEmO57xqxM?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FpEmO57xqxM?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object> <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3SYjtetAXZ4?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3SYjtetAXZ4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object> |
So what exactly does the gyro do in a land vehicle?

It'll help you go straight on a slick surface like gravel or loose dirt, especially in a rwd vehicle. It can be tuned like the Dbox, I think, to help you drift as well.
|
it just helps you in steering and AWESOME for (Drifting)
you let the Gyro do Most of the Correcting as its A LOT faster than you could Ever be. it keeps you pointed in one direction for the most part. you can see in the video when it was turned off a few times on the curve the tail would just come up around to the front .... Plus Under Full throttle takeoffs the rear of the truck would slide one or the other direction it will help keep this to a minimum.. I am not saying that the gyro will KEEP you from spinning out will be a 99.9% improvement . ALL spin outs START Before one Even starts notice it or See it and the Gyro is on the job BEFORE you even notice it correcting. the video is a little drawn out at the start as i had a few people saying that the gyro would mess with you on a hill or flipping in the air but as you will see it don't. sorry about the LOW audio in this Video the mic on the camera is Under the tripod mount. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xuvYmdFk2w8?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xuvYmdFk2w8?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object> will say this it DONT Help you learn not one bit IN FACT it makes it harder for you when you Dont use it After usen it. and with it you can do things you CAN'T do without it I dont think there are alot of people here that can take that turn in that driveway at 20+ on lose stones and Holes . A a human being can not Respond that fast. |
built an autopilot for one of my professors (college credit for playing with an RC plane FTW!) and it had all the gyros, bells, pitot tubes, gps, and whistles. Pretty sweet stuff.
